In early 2008, a small group of women in Indianapolis--school teachers, artists, musicians, and actors--came together with an idea. They decided to put on a production of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues, in combination with a silent art auction to benefit the Julian Center of Indianapolis and the V-Day campaign.
V-Day is a global movement to end violence against woman and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Playwright/founder Eve Ensler's award-winning play, The Vagina Monologues. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the production and the V-Day Campaign.
To date, the V-Day movement has raised over $50 million and educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it, crafted international educational, media and PSA campaigns, launched the Karama program in the Middle East, reopened shelters, and funded over 5,000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses in Kenya, South Dakota, Egypt and Iraq.
