Today:
Hoosier pop singer Jon McLaughlin will have an audience in more than 200 countries Feb. 24.
The Anderson University graduate and current Carmel resident is scheduled to sing "So Close" during the Academy Awards ceremony.
Written by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, "So Close" is part of the soundtrack for the Disney film "Enchanted."
In the movie, McLaughlin performs "So Close" as he portrays a ballroom singer.
"It's a short appearance, but the movie is really great," McLaughlin told Indy.com in December. "I've actually seen it twice."
Menken and Schwartz are nominees in the Oscar category of original song for "So Close," but McLaughlin is not.
The category includes two other Menken-Schwartz compositions from "Enchanted": "Happy Working Song" and "That's How You Know."
"Falling Slowly" from "Once" and "Raise It Up" from "August Rush" also are in the running for the original song trophy.
ABC affiliate WRTV-6 will telecast the 80th Academy Awards ceremony at 8 p.m. Feb. 24.
