I don't know how many people care about baseball on this site, but it is bothering me that Congress is getting involved with steroids in baseball. They feel like they are the only thing that can fix the problem. Well they have bigger problems to fix (education, homelessness, our struggling economy???). Anyways, I was wanting to know what everyone's opinion was on Congress getting involved with the steroids scandal and what you think the best option to fix the problem would be?
My personal opinion, the commish needs to hold a press conference before spring training gets in full swing and state that from here on out, steroids and other illegal performance enhancing drugs will be banned, and that they will hold drug tests to ensure that players aren't using these drugs. Then just say that everyone has a clean slate (yes, even Bonds and Clemens) and that the records will stand from the past. Personally, baseball wouldn't be as big as it is today if it wasn't for performance enhancers. Back in the baseball strike of 1995, baseball was almost extinct until the "summer of swing" in 1998 between McGwire and Sosa and that brought the fans back. So they should just pick up the pieces and move forward. That in my opinion is the best way to solve this issue
This week was arguably the worst week in the history of MLB. They may have lost more fans this week than the entire strike of 1995.
