Indiana University men's basketball coach Kelvin Sampson provided "false or misleading" information to NCAA investigators looking into allegations of recruiting violations.

In a notice filed with the university, the NCAA alleges Sampson knowingly participated in three-way telephone calls with recruits, as did assistant coaches Rob Senderoff and Jeff Meyer. The two assistant coaches are alleged to have made around 100 impermissible calls to recruits.

While Sampson denied participating in such calls, the NCAA's investigators believe otherwise.

"In fact, Sampson engaged in three-way telephone conversations with multiple prospective student-athletes, the prospective student-athlete's parents or legal guardians," the allegation reads.

During a November interview with investigators, Sampson said he was "unaware" Senderoff was using three-way calls to patch him through to recruits.

But the allegations note that Sampson participated in several conversations with both he and Senderoff and a potential recruit while on speakerphone.

An attorney for Meyer released a statement on Meyer's behalf early this morning, saying the assistant coach regretted mistakes he may have made that have apparently drawn the eye of NCAA investigators.

IU will release later today a response to the allegations.

Stu Brown, an Atlanta attorney who represents Meyer, said his client may have erred while contacting recruits.

"In my 29 years as a college coach, I have tried to maintain a reputation for integrity, fairness, and good sportsmanship -- values shared by Indiana University and the NCAA," Meyer's statement reads. "I regret that I may have made mistakes that are causing my and IU's conduct to be examined by the NCAA. I will continue to cooperate with both the university and the NCAA, and I will not comment on this process again before it is completed."

University spokesman Larry MacIntyre said school officials were working on a response to the allegations that will be issued sometime today.

MacIntyre declined to say what the allegations were this morning, but indicated IU would release the letter from the NCAA to IU president Michael McRobbie, a list of the allegations, and a response from school officials.

"We're working on it right now," MacIntyre said early today.

IU commissioned its own report, done by Indianapolis law firm Ice Miller, last year that found Sampson was believed to have made over 100 impermissible phone calls to recruits.

Sampson had already been punished by the NCAA for making nearly 600 such calls while he was the head coach at the University of Oklahoma. One of the stipulations of his punishment was his banishment from participating in three-way phone calls.

When the Ice Miller report was released in October, legal experts found Sampson had participated in at least 10 such calls, but determined those calls were initiated by former assistant coach Rob Senderoff, who resigned shortly after the report came out.

At the time, Sampson said he didn't know he had participated in three-way calls.

The NCAA's letter is expected to detail what their investigators found while looking into the incident.

IU has already handed out punishment to Sampson, who is forfeiting a half-million dollar raise this year.

The team is also forfeiting one scholarship next season.

The university will have until May to respond to the allegations, before appearing before the NCAA in June.

Thanks for all the effort, Kelvin. All the years Indiana has kept out of the NCAA's spotlight, but Kelvin Sampson comes in and Indiana can't seem to stay out of it. Whose idea was it to hire this crook?

Sampson is a much better coach than Davis, no doubt, but he's also a cheatin' mofo! Always has been and always will be. Good work IU! Keepin' it classy.

I hope it turns out alright. At least we don't have to worry about this season. It's been a bad couple days for IU basketball. Hopefully we turn that around and get a big win tonight against Wisconsin, Saturday against MSU, and Tuesday against Purdue. Three really big games for the Hoosiers.
