Naptown Roller Girls...family style?
I had my doubts heading into Saturday's bout. I've been dying to attend a Naptown Roller Girls event for ages, but never found that all important combination of free evening + sitter for the munchkins (of which, rather notably, i have three). So Saturday I sucked it up, piled everyone into the car and headed over to the state fairgrounds for the Roller Girl's 2nd bout of the 2008 series.
I was so impressed I haven't stopped talking about it since (my apologies to annoyed co-workers, family members, that random guy behind me in line at the Marathon station on Sunday). Not only did the gals put on a spectacular show, but the music was spot on, my kids had a blast, and I got a beer in the bargain. My three weren't the only pint-sized fans, and I wasn't even the only parent with one small enough to be bundled into a carrier! The fan base is a wide and diverse as I've ever seen. Everyone from blue-hairs with naptown roller tees on, to sub-single-digit babes sporting naptown roller onsies and red&black tutus abounded. Fans were friendly and quick to answer questions from a new-comer, and the kids got a kick out of being so close to the action. Sunday, my two and three year old put a couple pair of socks on, rolled up the carpet in my dining room and played "roller derby" for the afternoon, and the oldest kept asking me when we could we could go back to see the skating girls.
And, for $10 in advance and just $15 at the door, it's a small price to pay for an evening's entertainment. I have no doubt that i'll be in attendance for the rest of the season. Check out the site here for calendar and other fun info. Now I've just got to track down a couple pint-sized Roller Girls onesies and tees and we'll be properly outfitted for the next round...
I have to agree. I went there with a date (my 2 year old son) and we had a blast. For him to be entertained by something enough to sit still for more than an hour is an amazing thing. It was pretty cool. He would clap when everyone else would, yell and scream and he had no idea what was going on. Neither did his daddy, but I had a pretty great time as well. Don't get the wrong idea, it's a great time for grown-ups too. If it wasn't so much fun watching my son have so much fun, I could see myself drinking too much beer with my buds. Maybe I'll do that for the March 22 bout.

It was also my first time. It was fantastic and had I not been with my neighbor's 7 year old, I would have been a willing participant in the beer drinking party. If you go to the bout in March, get there early to get a seat. It doesn't take long to become a standing only affair.
I like our Naptown Roller Girls, but is it wrong to root for some of the cuter opposing team members?
Shimmercore, how dare you! Just kidding rooting for hot derby chicks is never wrong. I'm glad to hear everyone had a blast, we knew we would have a large crowd but never expected a turn out that huge! Were going to work hard to get ready for the next bout and to make our fans experience even better. I want to remind fans that they can buy tickets localy from Out Word Bound in down town Indy, Strange Brew in Green wood and a number of other places around the city, this will keep you from spending so much time in either the will call line or the line to buy tickets day of. See ya all next month for the bout with Cinci, it will be the toughest bout of the season so far, there girls were at our bout talking smack, and so our girls our going to bring it hard!
I'm not a fan of the rollergirl type but Michelle is looking pretty good in those pictures.
Nice review!

Sure that's totally fine, if there were any. Ouch. Kidding of course...any of them could easily do a roundhouse skate kick to my head for that comment.
On a separate note, can someone please get a background check on randydaytona?
