As an occasional hockey-game attender, I grew up with the Ft. Wayne Komets in Ft. Wayne at the Memorial Colleseum. Hoping to find a similar friday-night-activity now that I live in Indy, I attended the Ice-Gamblers game. It was a complete shut-out with ice taking the game at 5-1 with a decent Hat trick in the 3rd period. However the facilites were crap. The Parking was Hell. The Fights were staged. There were probably only two good checks. The puck was all over the place with neither team ever really having it in control. At a Komets game, the facilities are great, the parking is quick and easy (even though there are way more people in attendance) the fights are stemmed from actual anger and end with someone truly hurting, a solid body check is around every turn, and the puck always seems to be going where they want it! I WILL NEVER ATTEND ANOTHER ICE GAME! For that matter, I will probably never attend anything at the Pepsi coliseum again! The highlight of the night was a Super Fan that I heard hasn't missed a home game in five seasons. He had the audience wrapped around his little finger. Looking like John Candy from Planes Trains, and Automobiles, He was shouting things like "HOCKEY" and the crowd immediately responded with "HOOOOCCCKKKEEEYYY" Pretty entertaining! He also mocked the people in the penalty boxes to no end to everyone's enjoyment! And verbally abused the sub-par, mediocre refferees! All-In-All it was an experience that left me disappointed and frustrated. DON'T GO TO ICE GAMES!
it's funny that minor league hockey does seem more like WWE wrestling than NHL hockey. i'm afraid to go to the Pepsi Coliseum. were you frisked for weaponry?
no. and the funny thing is, they didn't even scan my ticket. (not that I expect they have that technology) You could buy one ticket for the nosebleed section, Copy it and photoshop seat numbers for those around you and just walk right in!
I see your point, but being that my brother has invested the last 13 years or so of his 18 years on this planet playing and training for hockey I support the ICE. He plays for there junior team and has a shot of playing for them and hopefully one day playing for someone better. So no it isn't the best, but at least they aren't getting shot at and arrested at strip clubs like some of our other professional athletes...
