Another filmmaker I met at a luncheon today for Heartland Film Festival was Sherry Devanney, director of "Our Race." This documentary short is about Canadian women who have survived breast cancer. Inspiring enough, but there's more.

As if sharing this dreaded disease wasn't enough of a bond, these women drew themselves closer by forming a Dragon Boat paddling team. The film chronicles their story from facing death to becoming competitive sportswomen.

Their movement has inspired women in other communities to form their own boat teams. And word is there's one that has just formed here in Indianapolis. Women from the new team are planning to attend the film's screening at 4:50 p.m. Sunday at AMC Clearwater Crossing. (It plays together with another short doc, "A Hero For Daisy.")
