The IMA was buzzing with activity Thursday night---tour busses of students viewing the Louvre show, packed gift shop, Happy Hour revelers swarming Puck's, walking tours forming in the lobby. I wanted to see the work of Adrian Scheiss, his so-called -trademark flat paintings- placed on floors or propped against walls throughout the IMA. I shall return for repeated viewings, but at first glance I do not have anything positive to say about these works. First off, they are not paintings (OK, maybe technically they are, if rainbow lacquer is considered paint). A couple of them are out-of-focus photos of paintings, but otherwise they remind me more of shiny, sometimes glittery formica countertops about the size of a ping pong table. Hey, I just thought something positive to say about these works: they sure are clean. Very clean. And shiny. Like clean, shiny formica that makes me want to play table tennis or air hockey.
I think that was PC trash talk...
Its unfortunate if your criticism depends on your defenition of paint. You may also want to notice that the titles for these works are "Paintings"
