really nice guys playing hard rock tunes

i like to talk trash about the music industry, in general, because for the most part, the industry as we all knew it is dead. record labels and local radio (FM) are dinosaurs soon to be extinct. the internet, satellite radio and touring will be the only ones left standing.

that being said, i have to give an impressive shout out to x103 for something that happened last night. i attended a concert at The Vogue for the band Hurt. i'm not sure what the popularity is of this band around the country but i'd imagine it's decent. i don't listen to local radio but on the few occasions i've turned it on x103 has been playing this band. they promoted this concert big time, they played the band's music and they seemed to generally care about the show. the place was not only packed but the crowd was rockin'. you could tell that the band was genuinely touched and excited to play and it showed in their performance. they even announced that they would stay after their show and have a drink with every person inside the club. i thought that was very cool. i'm not necessarily a huge fan of the band nor their style of music but it was nice to see a local radio station get behind something with a local venue and a national act and have it work on all levels.

listen, this band has been shoved down throats for two years now. x103 hates you.

im sure the show was fun, though. they love playing the music they write and that shows in record sales, but that doesnt mean i have to like them for being energetic. if they dont play hard and have fun, they arent doing their job.

raggin on the industry is always welcome, but pushing a medio-core band is a waste of time. dont get me wrong, the band has hooks. not the best, but radio ready hooks. blah. puddle of mud really rocks a crowd by tapping into everyones inner redneck, but that doesnt make them awesome. slipknot puts on a great show, but that doesnt make them artistically viable.

"newer" bands on tour HAVE TO SHOW zeal and energy. established acts get paid regardless. sorry for the rant. i havent been on tour for a few years now and i get all jealous. honestly, im just jealous.

mbnjmntrb it's all good. i'm the biggest music snob on this site. i wasn't saying i like Hurt because i do not. i have no problem with them but i'm definitely not a fan of 99% of anything non-90's that x103 plays. playing Korn on the radio in 2008 is a joke. all i'm saying is, is that it's refreshing to see a radio station back a band and their live show no matter how redneck the music. i could go on and on and on about Silversun Pickups and all the cool bands I love but the fact remains that this is Indianapolis, Indiana and the radio stations here blow goats hard. i've rarely heard a song from this decade on any Indianapolis radio station that I listen to and that includes 92.3. all i'm saying is that in this declining era of music it was kind of cool to see.

glad you clarified. but, um, im the music snob. silversun is so 2006. if you want to talk now, lets talk about how indy wont ever book crystal castles or MSTRKFRT.

if phoenix bodies would play the vogue, maybe i would go.

x103 reminds me that music from the mid-90's was good. just not THAT good.

Silversun Pickups rock. I was listening to a live EP of theirs in the car this morning. They certainly rock.

Well we do try. Thank you for the kind words. Your statement about them generally caring is in fact very true. They are extremely nice guys who do really care about their fans. They don't view themselves as rock stars which is very refreshing. And yes we do care about our shows. Like the music or not, the bottom line is we believe in rock. In this day and age of the Hip Hop crapt, speaking for myself, I want to do whatever I can to keep rock alive. ROCK ON, and have a great weekend.

Hey deuceonx103, thanks for stopping by and sharing. I think the biggest problem that people like myself have with your station is the fact that the majority of the music you guys play was better suited for 1999-2002 rather than 2008. Bands like Korn, Papa Roach, Breaking Benjamin, Finger Eleven, Three Days Grace, Seether just aren't good. Obviously there's a market for that type of music because you guys have stellar ratings so maybe people like me should just shut up and realize that Indiana is still into nu-metal and music most of the rest of the country wrote off 5+ years ago. Regardless, what troubles me about your station the most is the fact that your XX HD radio station is one of the best stations i've ever listened to. Playing everything from The Pixies to Queens of The Stone Age to My Bloody Valentine to Nirvana is amazing! Just wishing the 2 stations could flip flop. By the way, throwing in a White Stripes or Pearl Jam song for every 35 crap Korn song does not count.

mbnjmntrb - bro, listening to dance, techno, electronica does not make you a music snob, it makes you a pill popper. i like JUSTICE, Soulsavers, K&D and the rest but face facts... there's very little live market for that genre and it ain't just Indiana.

I listen to X103 mostly due to the fact that it's the lesser of 10+ evils! I enjoy rock and it's usually the closest we can get. I totally agree about the HD station needing to share their playlist with the traditional 103! Pick it up a little bit guys. Get some interns to keep you up to date on what's good rock!
