I may be new to town, but there is something seriously wrong when a program such as an evening's news story about the closure of a horse-back riding camp, which was providing physical and emotional therapy to needy children, is closed down due to zoning laws. Heavens, are there so many programs working that you can afford to close down one that IS on a mere technicality?
"Right makes might," Harry Truman once said. This program was right for the community, and for its participants. It not only should be funded on a regular basis, but I would think a zoning issue like this - where the stakes are so high - should be able to be handled expeditiously, or else there's more waste in the government than I thought.
Voters should remember what is done now by our reps - we're voting this year, and it's time to make our voices heard to those who claim to represent our 'best interests'.
I happen to catch a part of ABC's extreme home make over a while back. There was a family who had the exact type of camp and they were hurting. The got hooked up with all new everything, for them and all of their horses. I didn't know there was a place like that here. That sucks they have to shut down. Wasn't it the nieghbors of the camp who first complained??? I think I saw something about this. Nice Nieghbors if so...
The place I happened to catch on the news catered to children with disabilities, which makes it all the more hurtful that it's being shut down because of zoning laws. These kids have little enough in their lives to shout about, and I know that equine therapy is highly effective. I didn't catch the entire story so I don't know that the neighbors are to blame. But they could certainly help if they wanted to! Thanks for your comments...
