Are Candidates for Public office drug tested? Are Public Officals drug tested like the rest of the Country when applying for a job or randomly tested after they have a job? I'm betting they are not.
Even those that avoided drug tests as part of their job (i.e., GW Bush when he was in the military) still somehow manage to get elected. And don't get me started on Marion Barry. I was in DC when his crack-smoking was being aired on TV, and he STILL manages to be in an elected position. For the life of me, I don't understand why people who are sworn to uphold the law are exempt from the law. I would think that rather than make examples out of people who are too poor to hire a good attorney, a better strategy on the "war on drugs" would be to make examples out of those in the public eye - not give 'em police escorts back to rehab (i.e., Brittany Spears).
Another good strategy would be to quit lying to kids about the negative consequences of drug use. Many of today's kids have parents who have smoked pot all their lives. For them, they know the establishment is lying about pot, so they think they're lying about all the drugs, and that just isn't true.
Plus - what kind of message are we sending kids when every other ad on tv and in print is for prescription drugs? Don't you think that the message those ads are sending is that if something is bothering you, look for a pill or something outside of yourself to make it better? And let's face it...street drugs are easier and sometimes cheaper to get than prescription drugs, and in some cases, more effective. Now the pharmaceuticals are attacking natural holistic treatments. They succeeded in getting one of the most effective fat-reducers taken off the market (effedrin) based on the results of its abuse. With that logic, it won't be long before aspirin will be illegal...did you know that if you take too much of it you'll hallucinate? (I did that once when I was 13, away at boarding school and seriously depressed.)
Anyway, see what one innocent comment made by you has started?!!
