My favortie comfort food is a grilled peanut butter and jelly with a nice cup of hot chocolate. A nice snack like that always cheers me up. What is you favorite comfort food?
Food is my comfort...here are a few skimmed from the top of the list:
mashed potatoes
anything with peanut butter (ditto on the grilled factor)
chicken & dumplings
oatmeal
grilled cheese & tomato soup w/little goldfish crackers swimming in it...
mmmmm... Mac and Cheese
preferably my mom's or grandma's baked mac and cheese.
Also, ditto to mashed potatos. And nothing's more comforting than a nice cup of hot chocolate.
I love pizza: chewy crust, spicy sauce, hearty meats, gooey cheese... preferable served with plenty of dry red wine. Just the thought of the pizza cutter and the wine decanter makes me salivate. This is my perfect comfort food!!
I can't believe someone else knows about grilled PB&J! Other comfort food: Fritos, peanuts, dark chocolate anything, chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate chip/peanut butter cookies...hmmm, I'm sensing a theme here...
Caralyn pretty much read my mind, minus the chicken and dumplings.
Taco Bell.. seriously for some reason Taco Bell is one of my comfort foods. And dark chocolate, mashed potatoes, pasta, bread.. pretty much any starch!
Of course, mashed potatoes ice cream, my favorite is cookie dough ice cream mixed with mint chip. PB&J with potato chips on it potato chips with cream cheese dip
I'm not going to be able to stick to my diet if I keep talking like this!!
Taco Bell will kill you, but I'm hooked on the 7-layer & 1/2 lb. bean, rice & cheese burritos.
Alcohol
Pulled Pork, Mashed Potatoes...I guess?
Mac & Cheese is MY comfort food too. When you're down and out, nothing says salvation more than a nice bowl of Mac & Cheese. I think I'm having an Oprah moment over here.
wow, I too am amazed that other people know about grilled PB&J! My husband thought I was nuts. I do honey though, never tried jelly. And it always has to be eaten with a milkshake.
Oooh - good question. I love mashed potatoes and mac & cheese, like a lot of you.
But I also really love baked ruffles with cottage cheese, a favorite college-era snack for me. The combination of salt, carbohydrate, crisp texture, smooth dairy = happy girl. If you combine the chip-cheese "dish" with kahlua & coke, you will have my greatest foodie-girl shame and delight.
Ahhh, the guilt in just thinking about my faves. I'm on a Nutella kick, heated in the microwave and drizzled over strawberries or spread on warm toast layered with sliced bananas. SO good. Also, I adore homemade chicken noodle soup - I stick a full chicken in a crockpot, fill with water, add carrots and celery . . . walk away for hours and revisit with a bag of egg noodles. As a kid my Italian grandmother would always have a large pot of "Rav's" on the stove: Basically cheese tortellini simmered in chicken broth, served with a sprinkling of parmesan cheese. Last, but not least, homemade apple pie or DeBrand's enormous nut enhanced truffles.
I'm adding "Insalata alla caprese" to my list of comfort foods. Fresh Italian mozzerella sliced and laid between slices of fresh tomato Dressed with salt and cracked black pepper and olive oil.Topped with fresh chopped basil.
Beer cheese crock at Broad Ripple Brewpub. Hot melted yummy cheese and bread. How comforting can you get? You might as well have one of their fine IPA's while you're at it.
I have three..not together.
Taco Bell, Beef Jerky, and Jalapeno Chruncher Chips
Today it's Spinach Artichoke dip made in my very small crock pot. Found cheap bread sticks
noodles any kind - gourmet noodles, ramen noodles, rice noodles, wheat noodles, any kind of noodle. Noodles make me happy!
Pepperoni pizza, Mike's Cascade vinegar and salt potato chips, Cheetos, Oreos, Mom's baked mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, green beans seasoned with ham, McDonald's French fries, Dr. Pepper and Alaskan Amber. And brown rice with a bit of soy sauce. Yep. I love starch. In fact, my husband is out of town. I just made a giant batch of mac and cheese to last me the whole week! And I don't have to share! HA!
I'm going to have to add beans and cornbread to my favorites.
Grandma's Beef and Noodle.
Tomato sandwiches with Miracle Whip.
Mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and a cold beer. I find beer very comforting even though it's not a food.
A baked potato mashed up with butter, garlic salt and salsa, then covered with melted cheese ... spicy fried chicken and a biscuit from Popeye's ... carrot cake ... chocolate and peanut butter anything ... and the list goes on!
mac & cheese, anything from Panera, anything CHOCOLATE!
now on my comfort food list: ....YATS!
