Every message board has this topic. Why is there not one here yet?
The Black Dahlia -- It was pretty good but nowhere near as good as L.A. Confidential(book written by the same guy). It had a lot of annoying actors in it, specifically that guy from Thank You For Smoking. Anyways its worth watching.
Juno -- RE-TAR-DED! I don't get the hype. I thought it would at least be funny since the kid from Super Bad was in it.
Now you're turn....
"HOT ROD"
Not a great classic comedy movie, but it does have some laugh out loud moments.....at least worth a dollar rental from the "Redbox"
"GHOSTBUSTERS"
"Back off man, I'm a scientist."
Amen on the Juno review. I don't get the hype either. Like I said in another thread, I just felt like it was trying too hard to be Napoleon Dynamite.
The last movie I saw was "There Will Be Blood", and I thought it was a great movie. The cinematography was beautiful and Daniel Day-Lewis did an excellent job with his character. Clocking in at 2 hrs 38 min, it's probably not a movie I would watch all the time, but would probably revisit occasionally.
"Very Bad Things"
I watched 3:10 to Yuma last night.
AN ANGEL AT MY TABLE....Jane Campion film from early 90's (I think) about the writer from New Zealand, Janet Frame. Very good!
Smokin Aces...It was alright. Lots of blood.
Donnie Darko: Director's Cut - I never get tired of this movie, which is a good thing because you have to watch it 15 times to get it. It's got that weird and confusing "diverging realities" thing going on.
In a theater: "There Will be Blood" ... haven't been able to get it out of my head since ... funny (well, to me) ending, too.
At home: "High Fidelity" ... just felt like revisiting while trying to get "Blood" out of my head.
"Sahara" it was in my netflix queue... it really sucked! I like looking at Matthew McCounaghey (sp) but then he talks and sometimes it ruins it...
"Anchorman The Legend Of Ron Burgandy"
"Death Sentence"
Since Friday:
Bridge on the River Kwai
Persepolis
Cries and Whispers
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
Cleopatra
I watched "wedding crashers" Sunday - come on theaters are expensive. :)
"Across the Universe" with the 16-year-old; it just came out on DVD and he pounced on it. I can't be as enthusiastic as he was, but it's not bad. Sweet and pretty to look at, although heavy handed. As in when I was explaining to the 13-year-old what was going on when the Prudence character was sad and hiding in a closet because she had a crush on one of the other girls. "See, she was in the closet (get it?) and now she's coming out of the closet." Subtle it's not.
"Across the Universe" with the 16-year-old; it just came out on DVD and he pounced ...
Yeah I wasn't a fan of that movie. I just wanted it to end.
Last movie I watched was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and now I want to try some drugs for the first time, specifically ether.
I watched Canvas (Marcia Gay Harden, Joe Pantoliano) last night...loved it. Harden plays a wife and mother afflicted with a mental illness. The movie is as much about her as it is about her husband and son and how the circumstances affect them.
3:10 to Yuma. Thought it was decent. Wife didn't care for it
Hard Candy -its got ellen page from the AWESOME juno. its really really really hard to watch because, well, its a cross between 28 days later (ONLY in how its shot. sorry no zombies), the Interview (either van gogh's or Buschemi's), and the Usual Suspect, only its about pedophilia. yea, its hard to watch, but worth it.
Hard Candy -its got ellen page from the AWESOME juno. its really really really hard ...
That movie is nuts! I have to disagree with you on Juno though.
Little Corey Gorey...so bad it's good!
At the theaters I saw Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Tour. It was ok. It had it's moments. It wasn't about the comedy really, it was more about the comics, the 30 days on the road and what they ran into on the way. Not as much laughing as I expected. I cried about some stuff, didn't think that would happen.
But the last movie I watched was yesterday morning...Snakes on a (mother f*) Plane haha. Don't know why but I like that movie. I guess it's Samuel L. Jackson, he rocks.
"The Simpsons Movie"
Marge still has the best line in the movie.
"Clerks 2"
Gone Baby Gone. It was great I don't know how its not up for Best Picture.
"Clerks 2"
Ooooooooh that's a good one. I'm a Kevin Smith fan for sure!
We Own the Night...I didn't like it.
Oh wow...I am really surprised to hear your negative reviews about Juno. I loved it...loved the writing, the delivery, the cast. It is hyped because it's amazing!
Saw Charlie Wilson's War at the $1 theater on Friday...LOVED it...everyone who hasn't seen it - rent it.
Over the weekend:
Notorious
Dog Day Afternoon
In Bruges
Gone Baby Gone - excellent film.
if you didn't like Juno there's a piece of coal where your heart is supposed to be. SHAMELESS!
Gone Baby Gone - excellent film. if you didn't like Juno there's a piece of ...
Juno wasn't a bad story, it just wasn't funny. I expected more
Juno wasn't Superbad funny but i thought it was hilarious. It was a good mix of intelligent and low brow humor. The dad was awesome and I loved all of the grunge references. Just my own opinion. Don't think it was Oscar worthy but really, really enjoyed it.
The Assassination of Jesse James - Pretty good except it was long as hell...like almost 3 hours
We Own The Night - I liked it a lot plus Eva Mendes....
The Assassination of Jesse James - Pretty good except it was long as hell...like almost ...
I agree it was definately way to long, i did enjoy it though i actually almost felt bad for Robert Ford as the movie was ending. it ws a great movie though and very well acted
"No Country For Old Men" - Loved it
"Michael Clayton" - Bored me to sleep
"Backdraft"
"40 Year Old Virgin"
"Boys Don't Cry"
I just watched "Derailed" with Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston. Damn that's a messed up movie. I kept waiting for a train wreck, ala "Unbreakable".... I think that may have been a preferable plot line. Thinking about that film just puts chills in my spine; I need to watch something to restore my faith in humanity.
In response to the last good movie(s) I watched, "We Own The Night" and "Gone Baby Gone" were both good films. Seriously less disturbing.
Michael Clayton ...still thinking about this one, haven't formed a final opinion.
Prime ....Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman, very good!
across the universe. and it was a massive disappointment to me considering i love the beatles.
I watched family guy. it was hilarious!
Debbie Does Dallas. I never watched it before, so when I saw it on a torrent site, I had to grab it to see what all the fuss is about. I think it lived up to the hype.
It was a movie with Jason Stratham and Wesley Snipes. I forget the name of it and fell asleep during it. Sounds like a must-see flick, huh?
It was a movie with Jason Stratham and Wesley Snipes. I forget the name of ...
Was it "Crank?" I haven't seen this yet, but I have been told I need to see it.
"Freaks & Geeks Complete Series Disc 4" from Netflix, not a movie but I love and miss this show.
I watched No Country for Old Men. It was decent but I wasn't in the thinking mood last night.
Rented 3 movies from "Redbox"
Bee Movie - I liked it, but a little too preachy.
Hitman - Meh, it was your tpical bang bang shoot em' up with not much story, or at least the same story we have seen time and time again, I was expecting more from this especially with Timothy Olyphant as the Hitman.
30 Days Of Night - I really enjoyed this, I loved the concept of this, one of the better horror movies I have seen in a while, and Josh Hartnett didn't bother me like he normally does, It makes me want to read the graphic novel now.
Rented 3 movies from "Redbox" Bee Movie - I liked it, but a little too ...
How about that Russian girl in Hitman though? Wow! At first I didn't think she was great but damn she grew on me.
Was it "Crank?" I haven't seen this yet, but I have been told I need ...
No, it wasn't "Crank." I loved that movie! I want to say it was "War" but that had Jet Li in it, not Wesley Snipes. I'm being too lazy to Google the damn name of it. lol
How about that Russian girl in Hitman though? Wow! At first I didn't think she ...
That's EXACTLY what I thought about her too. I thought she as kind of odd-looking but she grew on me. I wish I could say the same about the movie.
Half Nelson - A movie about a crack-addicted teacher. Sounds crazy, I know, but it's the most brilliant thing I've seen in a long time. The soundtrack was also wonderful. If I'm not mistaken, much of it was done by Broken Social Scene.
Half Nelson - A movie about a crack-addicted teacher. Sounds crazy, I know, but it's ...
It -- especially Ryan Gosling's performance -- is brilliant.
I watched 'Into the Wild' last night.
"Knocked Up" Again, can't help it, I love this movie.
"Million Dollar Baby"
Audition.
And 21, of course.
"Gone Baby Gone." Not bad, but Casey Affleck is not a good leading man. Also, there's a moment where a character dramatically says the very name of the movie: "Gone, baby, gone."
I hate that.
"Gone Baby Gone." Not bad, but Casey Affleck is not a good leading man. Also, ...
Ugh. I haven't caught that one yet, but that is a cardinal sin.
One exception: in "Star Trek: First Contact," when James Cromwell tells the Enterprise crew "you're all astronauts, on some sort of star trek."
That is pure gold, baby.
REVOLVER! I cannot believe I anxiously waited 2+ years for this piece of trash to be released in the US. Madonna has completely ruined the career of a once promising film director. Shame!
http://www.perfumemovie.com/
anyone watched this??? creepy
21 - pretty good. I like how it ended.
Dazed and Confused - it was on TV last night and I couldn't turn it off even though I've seen it. Man that O'Bannion is an a------.
I finally got around to watching 'The Darjeeling Limited.' It was pretty cool visually, but lacked much of a plot. It seemed to expect us to empathize with the characters without knowing much about them. I think it's the least favorite Wes Anderson movie I've seen.
The Yards with Mark Wahlberg. It was actually pretty good (I just watched it cause of a Wahlberg being in it). Since the movie takes place in New York about the trains, I was wondering how boring it was going to be but I was pleasently surprised!
Bachelor Party 2....Update to the classic film
"Jesus Christ Superstar" on Easter weekend. Seemed appropriate.
"Rush" with Jason Patric, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Sam Elliott. Oh, and Gregg Allman.
"August Rush".....it was cutsie!! One of those happy ending stories.
Flawless- check it out if you have Dish- also watched Things we Lost in the Fire with Halle Berry- also a must see- And Into the Wild was robbed at the Awards shows- Loved it!!
Since the middle of last week--A Hard Day's Night, Audition, Yojimbo, Network. Quite a pastiche, I must say.
And man Randy is making a Karma killing on this post.
Not enough Joe but I'm not in it for the Karma ;-)
Anyway, I watched The Nines. It was weird but pretty good. It was one of those movies you might need to watch a couple times to get it all.
I also watched this little straight to dvd gem called Cougar Club. It's about these guys who start a club so they can get some cougars. It's kinda funny but it went to straight to dvd for a reason.
Just watched August Rush. Not as sublimely wonderful as Once, but a pretty good movie about music and the love of music. I highly recommend both of these to any musician.
Had a good weekend for movie watching. Since Friday night, I watched Some Like it Hot, Carnal Knowledge, M (OUTSTANDING film), Waiting for Guffman, Return of the Living Dead. That bumps me to 169 of 202 on my movies to see list with about a month and a half to go.
Juno was outstanding. It was entertaining, had a good message and a great soundtrack. We saw it with two 46 year olds and a 15 year old and we all loved it.
Rendition - not great, mildly amusing and a little thought provoking, but all in all just okay.
Into The Wild - Great Flik, Great soundtrack by Eddie Vedder
21 - I really liked this one. The book was better of course, but this movie was a lot of fun.
Transformers- it is still in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. I will never understand how a movie and purely entertaining as this one never won on oscar. Stupid critics...
Godzilla vs The Sea Monster
Sunday Afternoon Movie: The Stranger Game
flawless... pretty good but not worth $9.99 on demand
and then Lions for Lambs... I really liked it, powerful and thoughtful and all that good stuff
Last night I watched Good Luck Chuck
The unedited version, i am not sure I have ever seen so many nice breasts... seriously.
The movie was ok though, some good laughs.
"walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" much better the 2nd time through...and the 2 disc special edition had some great extras.
I picked up "JUNO" yesterday, don't fall for the 2 disc version, the 2nd disc is a "Digital Copy" for portable media players only, I made the mistake of thinking this was a 2 disc special Features, glad I looked before I opened it, I returned and got the single disc version for $15.99 at Best Buy!
Anyway, this is what I watched last night lol
Almost Famous - I'd never seen it before but it was pretty good.
Almost Famous - I'd never seen it before but it was pretty good.
Was it the "Untitled" version or the original theatrical version? The former is MUCH better than the latter.
Was it the "Untitled" version or the original theatrical version? The former is MUCH better ...
Pretty sure it was the original it was 2 hours. Damn, I guess I'll try to see the other too.
the last movie i watched in full was "the women," a 1939 film. it has an all women cast. it's a tad long, but it's a good movie!
i believe the remake is coming out this fall...
I rented all 3 Resident Evil's after watching the last 30 minutes of the first 1 on TV. Along with that my GF and I rented 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.... We had a zombie marathon. Yeah, we are pretty morbid.
"Be Kind Rewind" Don't waste your time with this crapfest. There are a couple of inventive scenes in it, and I normally like Jack Black, but this film was simply pointless.
"Be Kind Rewind" Don't waste your time with this crapfest. There are a couple of ...
When I saw the previews I went "Does anyone actually own a VCR anymore?" Why not do a movie on A Track Tapes while they are at it.
I just watched "In the Valley of Elah"....very good flick. Kinda depressing, but an interesting murder/mystery/war movie. Tommy Lee Jones is definitely making up for his Two-Face role in Batman Forever with his recent movies.
i have a vcr! i love it! it's great if you don't have dvr!
The Love Guru. Stupid but funny.
We watched that American Meth Documentary the other night. Ugh, the before and after photos were crazy.
"Be Kind Rewind" Don't waste your time with this crapfest. There are a couple of ...
After reading your and erob's comments I expected it to be horrible. It wasn't good but I've seen worse.
I watched this documentary the other night called "The Devil's Playground" it was interesting.
It was about this rite of passage that the Amish go through when they turn sixteen; where they can go out into the world, and smoke and drink and go crazy until they decide that they want to join the Amish church.
A lot of it took place here in Indiana, so it had that local connection. It was really good.
New movies I watched this month:
Indiana Jones - Good but a bit out there compared to previous films.
Incredible Hulk - Much better than the 1st one, ties into Iron Man, Captain America, and Avengers. DVD should have a lot of new footage.
The Happening - Much more gory than I expected. Somewhat lame. Typical Shamalama Ding Dong predictable twist ending. Harold and Kumar - Not as good as the first, a few laughs.
You Don't Mess With The Zohan - Typical Sandler, you either like him or you don't.
Movies I will see soon:
Hancock - Looks good, actually not based on a comic book
Dark Knight - Looks good, definitely based on a comic book
Wanted - Loosely based on the comic book of the same name but looks like they ruined it.
New movies I watched this month: Indiana Jones - Good but a bit out there ...
Zohan was hilarious. The best Sandler movie in a long time.
Charlie Bartlett, I liked it.
I just finally watched the 25th Hour with Ed Norton, this was a great film.
I just finally watched the 25th Hour with Ed Norton, this was a great film.
It was an awesome movie. I interviewed David Benioff, who wrote the novel and the screenplay for "25th Hour" (he signed my DVD, too!). It was a good interview.
Plus, he's married to Amanda Peet, so that was pretty awesome too.
I think the 25th Hour would go on the underated films post also. I had never heard of this film before, and it came on HBO the other day, I was blown away. The cast alone is awesome.
I think the 25th Hour would go on the underated films post also. I had ...
Absolutely it would. It's certainly one that gets overlooked a lot, and it is just dynamite.
I know, I know....but it was 'Airplane II'...."Check it, bleed. Bro was ON! Didn't trip, but the folks was freakin man. The pilots were laid to the bone holmes...."
I know, I know....but it was 'Airplane II'...."Check it, bleed. Bro was ON! Didn't trip, ...
LOVE Airplane II as well. One of my favorite bits: "Stryker? Stryker...Stryker...Stryker!" (a man in the background stands behind him, looks at him quizzically, then punches out the woman standing next to him).
I watched "Old Boy" the other night....what a great, but disturbing movie. I have never really seen any movie like that, I was impressed.
Last one I watched was The Happening. No wait. Love Guru.
I don't think I get points for this thread anymore :-(......oh well, that was never the intent
It was an awesome movie. I interviewed David Benioff, who wrote the novel and the ...
I didn't really like that movie. I DO like Amanda Peet.
I watched "Old Boy" the other night....what a great, but disturbing movie. I have never ...
Awesome, awesome movie. If you like Asian movies that mess with your mind, you should check out "Audition" as well.
Awesome, awesome movie. If you like Asian movies that mess with your mind, you should ...
Yeah, I saw "Audition" a while back....that's quite a messed up flick, I might have to watch it again. I'm waiting on "Lady Vengeance" from Netflix, which is part of the vengeance trilogy with "Old Boy".
I liked Audition. And as screwy as it is, it's by far the mildest film I've seen from that director.
Yeah, I saw "Audition" a while back....that's quite a messed up flick, I might have ...
I need to see "Lady Vengeance" also. Did you see "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance?" Also pretty good, but I preferred "Oldboy." That movie just blew my mind.
Keane...it gave me the creeps!
