Hey sugar toots... you up for a little shuffleboard??

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, I am trying to think of something unique to do... My wife and I have been married for 5 years already, and I just feel like we have already done EVERYTHING...

Anybody got IDEAS?

With less than two weeks to go, it's really a bit late to start planning. You're going to have a tough time getting into the trendier spots.

Have you thought about preparing an extravagant meal for her yourself?

you know, i thought about doing that... but i thought that maybe that was a little to expected... and the weather is cold, so anything outdoors is outof the question... i think i'm gonna count on indy.com for some good ol restaurant reviews... and HOPEFULLY the closer we get to the date, they will have some special feature or something...

Hey on TV, i always see people go to these stores to createtheir own fragrances... is there such a place in this fine city of ours??

Chicks dig expensive presents. Just go to the Fashion Mall and you'll get inspiration.

i suppose that if inspiration and debt are currently synonomous, then the fashion mall is the place to be... um inspired. i guess i am looking for a unique EXPERIENCE though-not in a cheesy let's dress up and visit FantaSuites way, but something romantic and MEMORABLE.

WOMEN, WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM US? I know... I know... You want us to KNOW what you want without having to ask. But that hasn't worked since the beginning of time... It's interesting that no women are responding... Let's be honest, Valentine's Day was created with you in mind. One day the chocolate factory, card company and floral shops all got together to manufacture this holiday to defraud the men and shower the women...

Ritz Carlton? FREE admission? FREE samples... Now THAT's why I'm talking about!

Beware the Xocai cult! They will try to convince you that you need a CASE of chocolate per month in order to satisfy the insatiable craving you never even knew you had. They will rattle off a list of health benefits with the aggression and speed of a snake oil salesman, or the enthusiasm of a QVC announcer. They will provide you with samples of their bitter-sweet chocolate sacrament, and force you to hold it in your mouth, savoring it as it dissolves on your tongue...when all you really want is to chew the da*n thing up and swallow it, so you can feel its magic start coursing through your veins. Next thing you know, you're laid up in rehab, trying to recover from your $100/month habit.

Haha...but seriously, be prepared to listen to the sales pitch.

If you haven't made reservations already, you're probably out of luck. Valentine's Day is one of the busiest days of the year for eating out, if not the busiest. I was going to suggest the Melting Pot as a romantic spot, but I don't you could get a reservation at this point. They are probably booked up already.

When I was in college I designed a night based on all our "firsts." First movie we saw at the theater (rented it), restaurant from our first date (gift certificate), I wore the shirt I wore on our first date, I served drinks themed around the party where we met (a Jimmy Buffet party). Then I fixed dinner and bought him a gift I knew he wanted. Of course it helps I have a phenomenal memory.

(you could always go spy on IndyMoms.com and see if they're saying anything interesting about V-day).

Maybe you could still book a couples massage, like at The Wellness Space in Broad Ripple, where they set up two tables in one room and a couple can get an hour or 90-minute massage at the same time.

You can get a complete meal from Oakley's Bistro that comes with easy directions to reheat. Including wine it's $130. I'm sure that would be much appreciated.

Nicki, that night of firsts sounds good... great idea. See NOW we're thinking outside of the box of chocolates...

Jolene, the couples massage was something that I thought they only did in movies? Cute idea though, it has made it into the top 3... :)

So, now the ladies blast through with the lessons on romance... Gentlemen, where are you? I know that there have got to be some guys out there with some GAME :)

OKAY... so the good people over at the Indy Star have stepped in like an intervention on an episode of celebrity rehab... cut and paste this link:

Alas and a-LACK...aLLEN, you are one of a quickly dying breed, as far as the "guys out there with some game"... I guess we Moms had better be raising up our boys better in that area, to help out the next gen of girls. ;o)

I'm thinking your wifey is already getting a sweet deal; reading your profile sez a lot about 364 days a year. If you haven't any kidlets yet, maybe that would be a good thought. (OK, I have a teenager and a 7y.o. going on 35, so I retract that. j/k)

Concert tix in a foreign town? tobyMac is gonna be close by soon, isn't he? Well, I wish you 2 the best. Full of grins and giggles. ab

how about the melting pot....it has been voted most romantic for the last two years.....its probably booked though....hmmm....lets see...im all for the massage, or just a day dedicated to her....she gets the massage and you pick her up....how about if you get stuck with the "normal" stuff, you spice it up a bit....romance.com has some good fun ideas too....but you could buy a rose for each year you've been together total and tie a line from a poem you write just for her to each rose....of course the last rose has the ending of the poem and the first has the beginning....then maybe you could put the roses, each a different color, in different places of the house.....sort of like a scavenger hunt....somewhere thats easy for her to spot, but don't let her know they are there....she will just discover them....or you can make her look for them....and with each rose, she can discover a box that has something significant of that year you guys were together....whether its a note, or a gift that you know she wanted but you couldnt get, or something like that.....sort of like that episode of the cosby show (here i go) when cliff, martin and elvin all had to buy gifts that were less than 25 dollars and they all got something that was really special...it made them think about their wives instead of buying for their wives.......check out that episode...just a thought....i know i'm cheesy

lol... yeah the Cosby Show. Classic American television. wow... you got some game though... I see you with the roses and tying a part of each poem to them. That is a cute idea... hmmm... and 25 dollars fits my budget:) the melting pot is around the corner from my house... maybe I will go stop in on my way to the office. You know it's bigger now right?? they took over that space on the end where Hollywood Video used to be... hmmm... interesting. thanks!

Melting Pot is uber romantic (at least the one on the southside has something they call 'lover's lane' really romantic seating) If you can't go all out on dinner at least go for champagne and chocolate fondue... if you can splurge take the lady to Tiffany's (if that is her style, buy her something nice(you can get great silver jewelry for under $200, or awesome diamonds for a lot more!) and then take her for chocolate and champagne!)

You know the cutest thing ever done for me at Val's day costed very little to nothing.....we went to a free jazz concert, my guy at the time made me a card...he was a bit of an artists but he couldn't have made something to look like a 5 yr old and I still wouldn't have awwwwed him to death.....anyway.....we done that and when we got back to his place he had cooked me some chicken and dressing cause that is all he knew how to make which was even more adorable and best and last when he opened the door there was hershey kisses from the door to the bed....I was instructed to follow them...when I got to the bed there was the lil homemade card that read, "now that I have kissed the ground you walked on....will you be my Valentine?" I have received some very expensive gifts for the holidays but that one cost less, and is embedded in my heart forever........

Did you read these before Valentine's Day, honey bunch? LOL! You didn't do any of these. But, I really appreciate what you did do. You did take a little part of someone's idea, I see. It seems like we have done everything...but it's not the BIG stuff (expensive gifts, bears, yucky chocolate) that I am looking for...it's the meaningful stuff that counts. Handholding, romantic movie-watching, feet rubbing (with socks, of course...lol), cooking a meal together, & smiles and giggles. Sometimes those are the things that are overlooked during such a commercialized "holiday." You know me better than that! LOVE YA!

I'm too late to respond directly to this, but I hope you used some inspiration from here for St. V-Day & your B-day....
