Fab First Feb Friday

Thousands of curious art lovers braved the arctic conditions of Friday night to experience one of the most memorable First Friday celebrations in recent memory. The Harrison Center hosted a show of new work by James Ratliff and Indy's first Pecha Kucha event, where presenters showed power point slides and engaged in designed chatter. The organizers of this event were obviously pleased at the standing room only turnout. The enigmatic Warhol Buck$, sporting an inspiring skullet haircut, was tightlipped about his recent work with Deltron 3030. I hope to find out more about that and other Buck$ projects if I can arrange an in-depth interview with his increasingly misguided and deranged publicist. This was a hip crowd though as the mere mention of surrealist Max Ernst ignited rousing cheers. At the Murphy Art center, Big Car gallery was transformed by Audrey Patten into the home of eccentric spinster Evelyn Masters. Resting Rooster brought the engaging strong musical sounds. A tip about another interesting band brought me to Cognizant Coffee shop to listen to Tonos Triad www.myspace.com/tonostriad Their strong set included songs entitled "Ebbage" and "Abacadabacus". Fans demanded encores. I went home refreshed and encouraged by the diverse talent of Indy artists and the visible support and curiosity of local art lovers.
