And so it begins: Let it snow

The blizzardy weather outside my office window.

I used to think it was ridiculous when all the Southern California networks sent their reporters out into "the field" to stand in the rain for "Storm Watch 200x." They'd stand in their bright yellow slickers and hats on a bridge, in front of some landmark or near a strip mall where shoppers were ducking beneath newspapers while running to their cars or hurrying underneath huge umbrellas as if rain were the first sign of the apocalypse (which is kind of true in SoCal).

But now I'm beginning to think that our Winter Storm watches are just as ridiculous. Schools closed anticipating today's BIG STORM, government employees were on standby hoping they'd close the buildings and get the day off . . . and all for what? LEss than an inch of snow? Schools go on a 2 hour delay because of a sprinkling of snow?!

This wannabe blizzard (not that I'm claiming to have any clue what a REAL blizzard is, but my coworker from Michigan laughs at this madness) will probably spit out 1-2 inches of snow and life will go on, despite the shelves at the grocery store being completely wiped out of water, bread and milk.

Lunacy.
