I think it was T.S. Eliot who said, "April is the cruelest month…" Now that quote has nothing to do with this post but I've never quoted Eliot before and thought his words might lend this piece of drivel an air of some class. Is it working so far? So yeah, February…short month but this year…even longer. This month February gets the calendar equivalent of The Director's Cut: Leap Year. Twenty nine days hath February 2008, loaded with extras. Valentine's Day! Black History Month! President's Day! Groundhog Day (coming up sooner than you might think) www.groundhog.org/info/ And coming up even sooner: F.F.F (First Friday in February). Find out all about the Indianapolis Downtown Artists and Dealers Association here www.idada.org/Default.aspx where you can check out the calendar of events and links to downtown galleries and artists. The IDADA member juried exhibition opens F.F.F. 2008 and the Murphy Arts Center is teeming with galleries and artist's studios www.myspace.com/murphyartcenter and at the Harrison Center for the Arts, check out Pecha Kucha night www.harrisoncenter.org/ So here's the thing to do: Try to visit as many IDADA galleries as you can this F.F.F. because its also the other 3 F's: Fun For Families.

Not knowing what the words "Pecha Kucha" meant, let alone how to pronounce them, I found the Wikipedia entry on the event very informative:

"Pecha Kucha Night is a presentation format in which (mostly creative) work can be easily and informally shown. It was originally devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Klein-Dytham Architecture (KDa) in Tokyo in 2003 as a place for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. The format has spread virally to many cities across the world. The name derives from a Japanese term for the sound of conversation ("chit-chat").

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pecha_Kucha for more background.
