We have a special early evening show for you!
TUESDAY JANUARY 29TH / EARLY SHOW DOORS @ 8 MUSIC @ 9 COVER $5

Visit the HOWLIES MySpace page and you'll find a list of influences about a mile long. Strange thing is, most of them -- from Chuck Berry and the Velvet Underground to Satan and the ATL -- make sense in one way or another as you listen to the tracks attached to the page. What comes out is what might result from a death match between garage-rock and the avant-garde, but it's spangled with hooks that stick in your brain -- and maybe a few of the painful kind that you can't get out of your finger. -Shane Harrison (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
Better Late Than Never, Right?: Unfortunately, there wasn't room last week to get this mention in before the show, but one of the next bands you should pay attention to in these parts is Atlanta's HOWLIES. The group played locally last week over at Go Bar and doesn't look to have anything else in the Athens area booked any time soon. However, give these folks a listen and I'm sure you'll find their highly original blend of working-class psychedelia and garage rock to be the best you've heard since, oh, that other Atlanta band The Selmanaires. Ask the HOWLIES nicely to come back via http://www.myspace.com/thehowlies. -Gordon Lamb (Flagpole Magazine)
HOWLIES seem simple to assess at first glance. They're indie, but not so much that it requires a warning label. They've got the outfits and a pastel guitar, after all. But this band is so heavily influenced by mid-'50s-style rock 'n' roll that it changes everything. They're either just ahead or way, way behind the times. Either way, it's nonetheless interesting to hear an interpretation of that old style from people who didn't grow up with the Cleavers - and they're quite good at it, too. Entertaining and mesmerizing all around. -Kyle Mitchell (Gainesville Sun)
HOWLIES play ragged, garage psych that keeps getting baked and wandering off in the woods to freak out. But make no mistake, these guys are muscular enough to snap Devendra Banhart like a twig. -Chris Parker (Nashville Scene)
HOWLIES are a southern freak-psych avant-garage boys choir. What does that mean? It's hard to say. LISTEN. Onstage they are a frantic mess of awesomeness. Guitars, tambourines, smoke machines. When they sing it's like werewolves doin harmonies. I dig it dude. The first time I heard this band all I could say was WOAH. -Keanu Reeves (Tiger Beat)
