Ran across this blog post today that details a bunch of regional pizza styles from across the country.
So, the question is: How many different styles have you had?
I've had the big New York ones: Neopolitan, New York-Neopolitan, New York-Style and Sicilian-Style from my time living in the Connecticut suburbs for a while.
Deep dish and stuffed I've had at various places (favorite stuffed: baked spaghetti stuffed pizza from a joint I went to back in W.Va.).
Finally, I've had the Ohio Valley-Style on various runs to Wheeling/Stubenville to places like DiCarlo's. It always struck me strange (they honestly just throw the toppings on right after they put the pizza in the box for you), but I don't know if there's a better middle-of-the-night pizza run type of pizza.
So, go on now: spill, what pizzas have you had? That post miss any regional styles?
I didn't see anything on the list that really matched my tastes.
I like a medium-deep crust, flaky and crisp but not crunchy. Lots of flavorful sauce --I hate when the sauce is bland -- and cheese, and pile on the toppings. I want thick-cut meats and veggies, not processed stuff.
The best pizza I've ever had was St. Mark's Pizza in the East Village in NYC. $2.25 for a one-topping slice as big as your head. (That was a few years back.)
Runner-up was a little family Greek place named Stavro's in a tiny town in Florida named Eustis. The city is most famous for being the site of the Teen Vampire murders about a decade back. No word on whether the vampires tried Stavro's pizza; maybe it could have sated them before they went on their killing spree.
I've yet to find an Indianapolis pizzeria that blew me away.
Best pizza I ever had is still this great gooey pizza at a little pizzeria in Germany when I was 10. I don't even remember what the place was called, but man they had some good pizza.
Just went to Jockamo last night, and it was pretty great.
