$14.98 (list price), Experimental Rock/Noise, Kill Rock Stars

Basic Story: Perhaps known best for their unwillingness to comply with "straightforward" songwriting, Xiu Xiu is back.

Sample: "If you say my dancing is effeminate/ I will never dance again/ and if you say my logic is irreversible/ then things will always be the same."

Verdict: Having acquired a vast amount of indie credibility, Xiu Xiu has more or less stuck with the same format; write a song that sounds like it could be normal and then, when you least expect it, go the opposite way. In the past, this worked to their advantage, but here, it seems as though singer Jamie Stewart's project has hit a wall. There is hardly a memorable moment to speak of. Even an attempt to cover David Bowie's "Under Pressure" turns out stale and by the end you can't help but wonder what went wrong.
