92.3, although I will say that they seriously need to bury some of the 80's and 90's crap that still makes it into heavy rotation. I think they're the best in town, but there is much room for improvement in a market that desperately needs some improvement.
But honestly, the station I tune to most of the time is 90.1 NPR. It's the least irritating of any station in town. Except during telethon time.
92.3 - World Class Rock... and next up we have a song by Creed!
the best radio station in Indianapolis can only be heard by about 14 people but it's x103's HD station which is almost identical to that of Left of Center on Sirius with a little bit of Lithium on Sirius mixed in. Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Nirvana, Strokes, Sunny Day Real Estate, QOTSA, Buckley, Beatles, Muse, Pixies, Rage, etc., etc., etc.
i actually have satellite so it doesn't matter but if you don't you should try and listen to this.
I'm with BMack! I totally switch back to NPR after making my program rotation and finding nothing but annoying over-played, outdated garbage.
I would kill for HD to get x103's station!
X103, 99.5, 92.3, and 101.9 in that order because there is music playing on at least one of those all the time..........I don't buy into the satellite radio because I drive about 300-500 miles a week and I like the traffic reports. :P I'm a nerd, I know
If I were forced to pick one, I would say 92.3 with one caveat; I am somewhat addicted to satellite radio now so I rarely ever tune into local stations anymore.
P.S. With having to choose between only those three...why not offer NPR as an option as well? ;)
I listen to a bit of everything already mentioned here. My favorite is probably 92.3 though. I have a 35 minute commute back and forth to work so, satelite radio doesn't do me any good. I have to hear about traffic around town. I have to be weary of all of these lovely (sarcasm!) drivers that Indy has to offer.
When I'm in the indy area I always turn my IPOD off and listen to 92.3, and sometimes I listen over my computer at home, since I live too far south to get the station in.
if its not my totally awesome selection via ipod, then its a scratched cd.
if it MUST BE radio, 90.1, no question.
x103 is either stuck in the mall or in the 90's. 92.3 is boring. the hip hop stations here are limited by commercial time, and the rest are just commercials.
as far as AM goes; if i want to my some road rage on, fine. nothing but half-assed misinformation and hipo-Christians.
I actually prefer to listen to ESPN radio, now that they switch to the 1070 tower. When it comes to FM in this town, mostly 92.3. Hope my opinion helps!
Hm...can't help but notice that the majority of these comments are from MEN! That's because there are no FEMALE radio stations in this market any more...107.9? Ick. Good fairly current song, followed by Ann Murray? ick.
95.5...sometimes okay, but I can only take so much country in a week.
99.5...why do they have to throw in all that hiphop @#$% after 3p?
93.9...what happened to my Dave Ramsey? Billboards advertised a station that none of my cars can tune into!
Do I sound bitter?! I'm now a Ch.6 listener in the car...take that, Emmis!
I listen to any station that has a jock that will answer the phone and not resort to "voice tracking" or taping a show. Ever wonder why alot of times you can't get through? Most times if they are voice tracked or taped, they "busy out" the phones. When radio becomes fun again and there are live DJ's all the time then I will listen. Long Live The IPOD!
Satellite radio is brilliant! I'm addicted to my BBC channels, the Big 80's, Heart and Soul, Backspin - the list is endless.
My fave local stations are 90.1 when I'm solo and when I'm driving with my son - 98.3 - Radio Disney (I know it's not really local).
i have to say, i drive around a lot with the radio on scan. If you totally cut out the radio, and only do the cd/mp3 thing, you could be missing something. I never minded the djs. well, that is if they were honestly funny, had good interaction and were creative. this town has been lacking in that department for a while, and a year ago, the "new rock alternative" (with not so much new rock) axed some of the creativity. If they can get the talented dj's - i'd like to hear them again. until then... i'll be a scan listener.
The article on Indy.com about the changing radio scene (http://www.indy.com/posts/4973) detailed 39 stations in the central Indiana market. 'Curious you chose only three to poll on.

It's funny that you mention "only when I'm solo", because I do the same thing. For some reason I'm convinced no passenger would ever be interested in listening to NPR or WIBC...Yes, I actually listen to both Rush Limbaugh & Diane Rehm, crazy right?
Bob and Tom in the morning... boob jokes? you mean sodomy and poop jokes... now that's funny!
Seriously... their constant flow of comedians and the familiar voices keep me coming back.
in the afternoon it's 1260 and JMV, best sports talk in Indy
for music... I guess 103 followed by 92.3, but I never seem to keep any station on for very long, I get a bit frustrated by the playlists and end up just putting in a CD... mp3 cd players that hold 200 songs is the way to go for music in the car for me.
Giant FM 90.9. I think its a highschool station, but they always play the best music. Screw the 10 ten every hour crap. It gets old only getting to listen to the same tracks over and over again.
I can't believe someone said 99.5. I am constantly amazed that someone (Smiley?) with no musical knowledge, no pop culture awareness, a Baptist Narrowcast (yeah, we are all right wing wackos here in Indy) and overall mentally challenged can dominate the morning airwaves. It's an insult to mediocre radio that someone like him is allowed to be employed in the communications arena. Even worse are the callers who really give Indiana a reason for it's stereotypes. If I can't listen to NPR, I listen to High School stations, but usually Cd's.
I usually listen to NPR, unless I feel like singing in the car, in which case I turn to 107.9 for the sake of the great 80s music. And then I roll down the window and belt it out for the benefit of the other cars on the road.
i feel like the choices for radio in the Indy area are somewhat limited and boring. i usually listen to NPR on 90.1 or 92.3 (when i want to hear some music other than what's on my ipod) and like both of those the majority of the time...
I would always pick X103 out of this grouping. Good tunes. Decent Morning show.
92.3, hands down. They're all good but I love the emerging artists I hear on 92.3.
None of the above. But then I'm biased. I need to stop here before I offend anyone.
None of the above. But then I'm biased. I need to stop here before I ...
WEEM wasn't on her list. Enlighten us!
X103
I listen to Smiley ... does that make me a nerd? :) I love him!
Music stations around here are soooo bad, I've abandoned them for talk radio. Get off my lawn!

NONE..........my cd's

but bob and tom make boob jokes, so theyre cool.
Wow - people still listen to radio? How quaint.
ipod baby, Ipod.
SIRIUS Satellite Radio, Left of Center, Channel 26...every Tuesday at Noon EST and again at Midnight EST
give that a try ;)
I actually prefer to listen to ESPN radio, now that they switch to the 1070 tower. When it comes to FM in this town, mostly 92.3. Hope my opinion helps!
Radio... how quaint. While you're at it, tell us about milking cows and making candles.
101.9 It was better when it first went on the air, but I still like the old Rock'n'Roll. I guess I'm showing my age.
WFYI 90.1 NPR
100.9 Radio NOW
92.3 but only at night. Their playlist during the day is too predictable.
90.1 NPR for sure.
100.9 and sirius satellite radio but only on weekends

NPR; Can't beat customized internet radio!!
X103 is my radio station.
none of the above.
90.1

I guess if I listen to the radio I listen to WIBC. I agree with indyclone JMV is really good too. The music stations are trash though.
sports talk and politcal talk for me when im toolin around in the sled
I used to listen to X103 but now I listen to the 10k songs on my Ipod.
i listen to WRON all day all night hahaha
