Any non-chain favorites for tacos in the city? I ate at Taquiera Del Maguey over on 38th Street past Lafayette Square Mall the other day. In my limited experience with food in Indy, these were by far and away the best tacos i've had in this city! They have a taco called Alambre that is basically beef, bacon and cheese slow roasted together then scooped into a corn tortilla. Oh my god!
By the way, they don't speak english but they do understand finger pointing at the menu.
Where else?
I have two places to recommend:
Panchos Taqueira on Michigan Road - Very authentic. Fantastic chorizo tacos and really fresh homemade salsas. Clean and friendly staff.
El Azabache on East Washington Street - Their tacos de carne asade are great! They add grilled onions and serve them on corn tortillas. Very juicy. Heaven!
An honorable mention to La Piedad in Broad Ripple. Not the greatest Mexican food on the planet, but a fun little restaurant in good weather.
I'm not a big taco fan, but I'm keeping my eye on this thread.

I've never had the tacos, but if they are on par with everything else, you should check out La Parada on East New York. The "decor" might be a little off putting. Ok, I won't hold back - the place is a bit of a dive. But the food is awesome. I'll vouch for the spicy pork burritos, and the chicken chimichangas. Oh, and the guacamole is the best I've ever had.
