Benefit Concert for The Westside Club
Indianapolis, Indiana, January 21, 2008: The Westside Wayout Club will be holding a benefit concert on Saturday, March 8th, 2008, at St Joseph's Parish Hall, 1375 S. Mickley, at 7:00 PM.
Featured Performers are:
Cliff Snyder. Although he hesitates to use labels like Americana, even a casual listener can hear that singer-songwriter Cliff Snyder's music is deep in the waters of American roots music. With a weathered voice, an acoustic guitar, and a penchant for straightforward songs about hard work and hard times, the influence of songwriters like Steve Earle, John Prine & Bruce Springsteen are apparent. Whether he's pounding out a an old spiritual or finger picking his way through a tale of love gone wrong, Snyder's music cuts through the noise of everyday life.
Cliff has been featured on the INtake & Indianapolismusic.net Top Ten Live shows of the week as well as Indianapolismusic.net & NUVO's OnTrack artist feature.
He has also made live radio appearances in support of his new album Fool's Highway and is currently getting radio play on 88.7 WICR in Indianapolis.
Dean Phelps. Born and raised in Maysville, Kentucky, working his way to Indianapolis by way of Atlanta, Georgia, Dean started playing guitar at a young age. It started one evening when he was nine years old, banging away on his dad's Kay guitar. Dean's dad showed him where to put his fingers to make a G chord, and he's been playing in G ever since.
Doc Possom of Indy Folk News writes: "Dean is an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He is Reverend Dean Phelps, with no apologies, but although he's a Reverend, he's not very churchy. He is a regular guy with a fun repertoire, a relaxed manner, nice picking, and a friendly way of putting a song across!"
Patchwork String Band. Patchwork was born in August, 2007. Rick and Holly were introduced through a mutual friend, sat down to play music and realized that something special was happening. Rick and Holly bring a combined 40+ year's stage experience to Patchwork. Patchwork prides itself on presenting family friendly programs...songs the whole family can sing along to and jokes the whole family can laugh at. In any given program, you might hear Irish sing alongs, traditional American folk music, original music, gospel music, as well as covers of such artists as John Denver and Harry Chapin. With Rick's engaging style of combining clean humor, storytelling, all woven around music, and Holly's back up fiddle and wonderful vocal harmony, it's a casual, comfortable event the entire family is sure to enjoy.
All 3 of these artists have come together to lend their efforts for The Westside Wayout Club, a 510(c)3 non profit organization that provides meeting space, social events, and support for those recovering from alcoholism. The Westside Club has been in business since 1982, and has continually provided a high level of service to the recovery community.
