Has anyone been to the O'Malia's off of Mass. Ave( I can't remember the exact street, Virginia maybe?) lately? It's no longer an O'Malia's, but a Marsh store instead. There have been major renovations on the inside, and it's much nicer, brighter and the stock seems to have bulked up quite a bit. Their salad bar was alway pretty good, but there seem to be even more options now. Plus they have an olive bar. Olives tossed in cheese, olives tossed in garlic, black olives, green olives, you name it. I don't usually do my shopping there because it's a bit pricey, but it's a great option if you need to stop and get something quick.

A pox on O'Malias! Their prices are insane and their selection is terrible. The only other option downtown is the 16th St. Kroger, which is terrifying. So I have to drive all the way to the Southport Super Target for groceries. Madness!

I agree -- downtown grocery options are pretty meager. The O'Malia's has a decent selection for such a small place, imho. And I've only ever been able to find my favorite brand of cheese (Hunter's Seriously Sharp) and mustard (Kosciusko) there in all of Indianapolis.

Well, their prices have come down a tad since they became a Marsh Marketplace, or whatever it's called. And the store is much brighter and better laid out. But I think it lost a little bit of it's neighborhood grocery store charm.

Now if we could just get a Trader Joe's closer to Downtown. :)

I think it lost a bit of it's "filth" as well. The store is much cleaner and easier to navigate.

I seriously cannot wait for a whole foods, trader joe's or sunflower market to set-up shop downtown.

That along with a target and a pet store then I won't have to leave downtown for my regular shopping. That would be such a huge relief.

Gotta tell you - as a resident of downtown - it is such a relief to have a grocery option open late into the evening. Since O'Malia's became Marsh at the Marketplace Downtown they now carry more Marsh Brand/Generics, the layout is much more user-friendly, and they're open until 2am most nights (for those late night grocery/pharmacy runs).

Downtown grocery shopping has always been meager at best, but this change was a huge leap in the right direction!

Whoa? They are open until 2am now? This is GREAT news!

I just found it on their website:

The conversion to Marsh the Marketplace at Lockerbie also means extended hours for the store - 7 a.m. to 2 a.m., seven days a week.

Believe me, you will be paying for it as well! In season you should support the local economy and hit up the farmers market. Its a good place to pick up obscure treats and meet cute foodie girls. Like the French Imports for Capriolle cheese! I'm just holding out for the Whole Foods to try to fill Atlas's shoes.

The downtown Marsh is a huge improvement over O'Malias. I agree with PP concerning the filth. When they remodeled the store and cleaned it up, some of the "charm" went out with it. Personally, I was glad to see both the filth and the so called "charm" go out the window. Fortunately, they replaced it with better sale prices.

RJ - um - prices have actually dropped at the OMalias-turned-Marsh at the Marketplace! Trust me - I live a block and a half from there and there are days I abso. refuse to drive out of the city to grocery shop. NOT to say I can't wait for warmth and the farmer's market (always a treat) but so far I haven't seen prices go up!
