Basic Story: As if you haven't heard already, In Rainbows was self-released on the Internet in October as a pay-what-you-want download, but now gets an official physical release.
Sample: "Don't get any big ideas/ they're not gonna happen/ you'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking."
Verdict: Singer Thom Yorke has been quoted as saying that this is the band's classic album - their Transformer, Revolver, Hunky Dory - and it's hard to disagree. Whether you prefer Radiohead to rock out ("Bodysnatchers") or to mellow out ("All I Need"), they've got you covered. At just 10 songs, the album is short and sweet, never overstaying its welcome. Simply put, it's yet another masterpiece released in several enticing ways that will surely be talked about for years to come. Best of all, if this truly is their Revolver, we still have their Sgt. Pepper's to look forward to.
Even though Radiohead offered this album online for whatever price you wanted, In Rainbows still ranked as the top-selling album in the country this past week.
Would it have done as well or better if they hadn't of done this? Possibly. It's a great album and Radiohead has a huge fanbase. But with a number one spot, it shows that their unique approach didn't destroy album sales.
I'm not sure I'd classify this album as Radiohead's "classic album", but it is VERY good. I highly recommend it.
