Karl Wirsum has a strong body of work that is on display in the Herron School of Art and Design Main gallery. I was looking forward to the show and was not disappointed. These colorful works grab the viewers attention using in your face contrast and some of the most clean crisp brush work I have seen. My friends and I actually got into a heated debate regarding what his technique may be for such crisp, delicate brush work. His figures are futuristic to be sure but, they also speak to our past ideas about how the future may be. Some of the work was hung salon style which usually bothers me but, it seemed to work for this exhibition. So, if the winter blues seem to be settling in on you and yours, do yourself a favor and infuse your hum drum existence with some much needed color and spunk.
