We all have simple enjoyments in our lives that we, for no otherwise good reason beside the "I like to do it" mindset, set aside time for. The origin of our particular practice maybe conscious or unconscious, that is we may have made a conscious decision to indulge ourselves or it just might be that we have found ourselves doing something regularly then later realized our pattern of indulgence.
An example of an unconscious (or should that be subconscious?) indulgence of mine is my Saturday morning routine. It is not something I set out to do, I just sort of noticed one time after many, many Saturday mornings, that I really enjoy my particular Saturday morning routine. That routine? Doing nothing! Perhaps that is an over simplification, because I actually do something! That something? Waking up without an alarm clock then sitting in a recliner, sipping black coffee, Fox News on TV and my laptop well, on my lap.
In our 21st century go, go, go society one might ask, "what are you accomplishing?" The simple answer is nothing, except peace of mind. Do I sacredly guard my Saturday morning time? No. If something comes up that I'd rather do for one Saturday morning, I'll set my alarm and get up and do it. Thing is, it's my decision to make. Would I take on a responsibility to get up to an alarm clock every Saturday? I'd try not to unless it meant a benefit for my family.
Until an opportunity, that requires my time on Saturday mornings, comes along that I can't refuse, I will be found doing what I'm doing right now as I write this. Kicking back in a recliner, coffee cup to my right, laptop in front and TV news in the background. This is virtually the only real "my time" I have in the week and I like it. It's my weekly mini-vacation and I thank God that I have it.
