It's dark. It's cold. And, just when I thought hippie miracles were few, The Spirtles have decided to play another Sunday show. This Sunday.
Really. I've been suffering Spirtles withdrawl for about three months now ~ since the band stopped doing its Sunday afternnon gigs in Broad Ripple. Maybe you'll recall: You were walking down Westfield Blvd. one sunny day -- near The Corner Wine Bar -- when you couldn't miss loud Grateful Dead jams (mixed with a few others) resonating from the patio at The Jazz Cooker.
But that was last summer when the temperatures were perfect for a cold one and getting groovy. Now the temps are perfect for, well, a cold one and getting groovy inside, which is what The Spirtles say they'll be doing at 6 p.m. Sunday at Mug Shotz, north of Broad Ripple Ave. on College. (Mug Shotz is apparently the latest name for the former Stone Mug.)
Band members say they'll be "playing an outstanding selection of acoustic and electric music featuring a robust percussion section."
Guest Guitarist is James Booth, a founding member of the Spirtles -- a home-grown band that has been around at least since (gasp) I was a twenty-something college student in fab Bloomington.
The guys say it's a "rare" show, so I'm gonna take a rare trip outside my home to attend.
I gotta say, The Spirtles served up a mighty fine sampling of good rock and roll last night, and some bluegrassy stuff too...They even managed to fill Mug Shotz (formerly the Stone Mug and, most recently, the Steel Pony) ~ something I haven't seen done. I'm crossing my fingers that they'll be back for another show, very soon.
Thanks.
