Britney Spears is lighting up the switchboard at Internet Central again, this time for being hospitalized for lunatic behavior after allegedly holding her own kids hostage.

And people thought Britney was the one making a colossally bad decision when she married Kevin Federline.

What must have seemed like a coup to Federline at the time (dude, I'm sleeping with BRITNEY SPEARS!) has turned unimaginably sour for the dude: Not only is he a national joke, but worse, he's hopelessly and eternally linked through parenthood to an insane, drug-addled ex-child star destined to be hounded by the press until she dies, most likely in a spectacularly disgraceful (she may out-Anna-Nicole Anna Nicole) way.

Why do we still care? I seriously wish the press would quit following her so she would quit pulling stunts like this. I've watched many videos of her online. She plans her little daily outings on purpose. She loves the attention and loves staying in the tabloids. Hell her latest song is about HER and her being in the tabloids. When it's out there on everyweb site, at every cash register, you have no choice but to learn about it. I would much rather learn about something else. Anyone else with me?

Nah. I'm not with you. And it kills me to come to this realization because I used to be with you. Here's the shameful truth: I love watching her sink to the bottom. I love even more that there doesn't appear to be a bottom in sight. Frankly, I love it because I think, at one point, some of your sentiments were right. She probably was a press monger. But who in the world could want to go through what she's going through just for some press? And for that, I picture it as divine retribution. And I get to watch. It's a very disgusting guilty pleasure. I know. I'm very likely less of a man for enjoying her popwreckness. But damn, this stuff is good.

If I never heard about Britney or Kevin again it would be too soon.

It's a sickness!!!! You know this right? hahah Isn't she at the bottom already? If she looked good doing all of this it wouldn't be so bad but my gosh she looks awful!

I know, I know. It is a sickness. And admitting it to the indy.com public is the first step to getting over it. But you're right, she looks like hell and apparently her brain is a total mess. If I was capable of not rubber-necking every time I drove by an accident I might be man enough to avoid this one too. But I'm not. Eh, at least I don't watch reality TV shows. That's gotta count for something.

You live a sad sad life and need more excitement haha. Just kidding. I am guilty of watching a few reality tv shows. I likes my Snoop. haha. And The Girls Next Door. Dr. 90210. American Idol. I used to watch Survivor but it got old. I have to admit though, the Snoop show is completely scripted and they are terrible actors. They should just let them be. People will get into trouble on their own. I would rather see "real" tv than scripted crap. Oooooo I forgot, I love Cops too haha. Bad boys bad boys, whatcha gonna dooooo....

Nearly every single person that becomes famous before 18 turns into a wreck. It's sad. Think about it..

I'm not ashamed to admit that I love watching celebs mess up their lives. I find it incredibly entertaining.

She's nuts!

What really makes me sick is when trailer-trash like her suddenly makes it big and has all the money....while decent people who do great things with their lives for other people, etc. struggle to pay the bills every month. But hey...I'm not bitter!! You can take the girl out of the trailer, but you can't take the trailer out of the girl....

It is schadenfreude. It's also zeitgeist. Jake Halpern's "Fame Junkies" really highlights how we're becoming a lonelier society -- we have more ways to communicate with each other, but the ways of communicating are rather impersonal. Anyway, we're using celebrities as ways of following the best hunter/gatherers around. Read the book.

As for Britney, maybe she just needs some kindness...?

She needs a straight jacket. That's it.

I actually feel kinda bad for her... I think she seriously is nuts and doesn't know how to deal with it because stuff is coming in from all directions.

Even though without all of her going-ons I don't know what I'd do with myself during my downtime at work. Yes, I too am one of those sick, sick people who avidly watch celebs ruin their lives and make a fool of themselves daily...

Yea, based on your post I feel the need to update mine ...

I was talking to a friend about the popwreckness and my buddy said "Sure, it's all fun and games until she throws herself off something tall." Ouch. So I felt bad for a little bit. Still can't stop watching though.

When do we get to find out how sick she really is so I can decide whether or not to start feeling bad or continue enjoying it?

Yes, its tough to know when to draw that line... I think right now she's relatively harmless to others (except to the future emotional state of her kids...). She may be ruining her reputation and her body by consuming whatever it is she is consuming, but I think the only difference between her and most other celebs is that she's more public about said consumption and she also takes in 6000 calories of starbucks a day.

Hopefully that army of men with cameras who follow her around will stop her from doing anything too drastic. And I think if she attempts anything, then she'll get sent for real help. Until then, I think we're ok enjoying it. ;)
