$11.98 (list price), Sweater Vest Pop, XL

Basic Story: Brooklyn four-piece Vampire Weekend, whose members met while studying at the prestigious Colombia University, release their highly anticipated debut album.

Sample: "As a young girl/ Louis Vuitton/ with your mother on a sandy lawn/ as a sophomore/ with reggaeton/ and the linens you're sitting on."

Verdict: Heard the hype about these guys yet? It's there, but, as is always the question with hype, is it warranted? On first listen, not really. But, by the time you realize that you can't stop playing this record, you just might find yourself singing praise with the rest of the choir. Vampire Weekend has taken the ingredients from Paul Simon's Graceland and sprinkled it with minimalist keyboards, sweater vests and lyrics witty enough to be submitted as poetry. The combination works - it's fresh and charming, even if it is a bit kitschy.
