Cat Power - "Jukebox"

Cat Power--a.k.a. Chan Marshall--returns to the road for a short tour in February to support her forthcoming second album of cover songs, "Jukebox."

The singer, who will kick off a six-city outing Feb. 6 in New York City, will once again have the services of her Dirty Delta Blues Band backing her up. The group, which also appears on the new album, consists of Judah Bauer (from Blues Explosion), Gregg Foreman (Delta 72), Erik Paparazzi (Lizard Music), and Jim White (from Dirty Three).

Marshall, who received the prestigious Shortlist Music Prize this summer for her previous album, "The Greatest," has put together the second covers album of her recording career with "Jukebox," which is due in stores Jan. 22.

Like her previous covers effort, 2000's "The Covers Record," Marshall again tackles a mixed bag of big hits and obscure oldies, with the 12 tracks including renditions of Joni Mitchell's "Blue," Bob Dylan's "I Believe in You," and the canonical "Theme From New York, New York," popularized by both Liza Minnelli and Frank Sinatra, as well as one Marshall original, "Song to Bobby."

Matador Records will issue a limited-edition silver foil package of the album including a bonus disc with five extra songs.

Marshall recorded her previous CD, "The Greatest," in Memphis in 2005 with a group of veteran session players, including members of the Hi Records house band and Steve Potts, onetime drummer for Booker T and the MGs.

The album, Jukebox (with the performers who made the songs popular):

01 New York (Frank Sinatra) 02 Ramblin' (Wo)man (Hank Williams) 03 Metal Heart (Cat Power) 04 Silver Stallion (The Highwaymen) 05 Aretha, Sing One For Me (George Jackson) 06 Lost Someone (James Brown) 07 Lord, Help the Poor and Needy (Jessie Mae Hemphill) 08 I Believe in You (Bob Dylan) 09 Song to Bobby (Cat Power) 10 Don't Explain (Billie Holiday) 11 Woman Left Lonely (Janis Joplin) 12 Blue (Joni Mitchell)

Bonus:

01 I Feel (Hot Boys) 02 Naked If I Want To (Moby Grape) 03 Breathless (Nick Cave) 04 Angelitos Negros (Roberta Flack) 05 She's Got You (Patsy Cline)
