Melissa and I visited my parents in Austin for Christmas, and since Melissa is allergic to their cat, we stayed at a hotel. Thanks to free Showtime, this afforded us countless hours of indescribably bad cinema.
There was a shining star amidst the gloom, however: an indie horror flick called Zombie Honeymoon. This romantic zombie comedy (romzomcom, if you will) tells the story of a newlywed couple on their honeymoon, during which the husband Danny is attacked by an errant sea zombie that washes up on shore. Danny's wife Denise struggles with a difficult question: can I still love my husband when he's eating all of my friends?
Believe it or not, Zombie Honeymoon manages to be touching in between the hilarity and gore. The actress who plays Denise delivers a surprisingly convincing and heartfelt performance. And it doesn't hurt that the movie is dedicated to the director's sister, whose husband died on their honeymoon (under much less absurd circumstances).

If you like movies like this, I'd recommend a film called "Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon." It's about a Jason-style slasher who lives in the real world, and a group of filmmakers are doing a documentary about him. The killer talks about how he picks someone to stalk and it shows him setting up the elaborate traps and the staging of death scenes, etc. Robert Englund (who played Freddy) plays the Donald Pleasance-type doctor who is stalking Leslie (the killer). It's very well done and is very interesting and even gets scary at the end.
A couple other good zombie movies are Shaun of the Dead and Fido. I'd definitely rate Shaun of the Dead as better than Fido, but Fido's not bad. And Fido has more romance, so I suppose it's a romzomcom. That's a catchy word Dan.
I re-read this and noticed you mentioned you saw it on Showtime. I'm going to have to DVR it and check it out.
Also, has everyone heard that Romero is coming out with a new zombie movie that I think is going back to the low-budget roots. It's "Blair Witch" handheld camera style and is called "Diary of the Dead." I've heard both that it's very good and it's very bad. I'm all over Romero zombie flicks.
