I went to dinner at Mikado tonight with friends to ring in the New Year. I had never been there before so I was interested to see how it compared to other sushi around the city.
I had my usual, the Philly roll. It was your standard Philly roll, nothing too distinct about it, but still very enjoyable. Same to be said for the spicy shrimp roll. Their miso was good, but not as good as Wasabi. The one item of note was the sun roll. It was large, too big for one bite. It had an interesting outer layer of paper intstead of seaweed. The inside had salmon, tuna and crab and fried. It was pretty tasty.
Other than the sun roll it was your average sushi experience, which is better than a bad one. However I expected something a little bit more with the reputation.
There's my two cents on dining at Mikado.
I agree then Sun Roll really was the best bit of the evening. That salted grilled mackerel we had was tasty as well.
I saw that icky face you made with the un-filtered sake :-)
