Bourne again

I'm not much of an action movie guy these days - though I grew up loving Rambo and Die Hard, etc. in the 1980s. So I didn't pay much attention to all of the buzz around the three Bourne movies when they were out.

Then I saw "Michael Clayton" directed by Tony Gilroy earlier this year. That very good suspense/intrigue/action-ish film was Gilroy's first as a director as well as a screenwriter. As I learned soon after seeing "Michael Clayton" Gilroy was the writer of all three Bourne movies. So I recently decided to give them a spin and queued up the first two in Netflix.

My wife and I enjoyed the first two so much that we rented the last, Ultimatum, at the video store instead of waiting for it to become available on Netflix.

If you haven't seen them, do so. Matt Damon is very likable as Bourne, a CIA agent who can survive everything but can't remember anything about who he is. He's the opposite of a Bond type and is far removed from the annoying cartoon secret agents like Tom Cruise in "Mission Impossible" or the stereotyped thieves in the "Oceans" films.

With all three fast-moving and non-stop-fun Bourne films, the only thing we didn't like was that they had to end.

But I'm not sure if the film series is done. Robert Ludlum only wrote three Bourne books - named the same as the three movies - though another author picked up the series with two more. While it would be good to go out on top, I would be happy to have more of these films if Gilroy and company remained involved.

I wonder if others out there enjoyed these movies as much as we did.

Welcome to the club...Bourne was so great that he changed the way Bond did business. I was a little late to warm to Bourne also. I didn't pay the first much attention at all, but I loved the second one and the third one even more. Paul Greengrass really ampted the series up a lot, and brought a great new style to the table.
