Do you think shows like "Cheaters," "Cops" and "To Catch a Predator" are unethical or just plain wrong? Is it bad that we get enjoyment from watching people screw up in ebarrasing and even deviant sexual or criminal ways?

Or do these people deserve everything they get?

There are definitely some ethical issues behind these sorts of ambush shows. I think "Cops" is probably the least ethically questionable, because it doesn't try to portray the participants in any sort of light. It's more or less just camera on following the officer, and we make the judgments on those involved. The others, though, get disgusting with their smarmy, holier-than-thou kind of confrontation TV.

This would seem like a topic people might make comments about.

I absolutely agree with Joe; the lack of context -- especially with "Cops" and "Cheaters" -- grates on my nerves. "To Catch a Predator" appears to do the "fairest" job, although I also think those are the people who deserve to be ambushed the most (if there is such a thing). Nonetheless, I generally switch channels as soon as I see any of these shows.

I always think of their family members...how horrifying it must be to see their spouse get caught for being a pedophile. And the kids most definitely will be picked on at school for "daddy" appearing on Nightline...is that fair?
