Well, it looks like RadioNow is back . . . kind of. I was flipping stations this morning and hit 100.9, which is now apparently RadioNow (I was clued in by the announcer in the background repeatedly saying RadioNow 100.9 over and over and over again -- like when you get your stations crossed and you hear that slight bleed). Sure enough, I get to work and look it up and Emmis has sold the intellectual property (the RadioNow name, trademark, branding, etc. to Radio One). For those of you that care. Thankfully, for now, there are no DJs or anything. The annoyance has been limited to the repetitive attempts at branding, played beneath the songs they're playing. But it was annoying enough to make me change the station. I like the music occasionally, so I guess I'm kind of glad that there's that option, but I'm still thinking that buying a Pandora gadget might be the way to go. Now what are those ja-- fans going to do now that WYJZ is gone?
Radio stations would do better if they did something innovative once in a while. Hackneyed morning shows and the same 10 songs on repeat don't cut it in the 21st century.
RadioNow's target audience (12-24 or whatever) barely listens to traditional radio anymore.
Hence my love for Pandora. Always songs I want to hear. And none of the annoying DJs.
Unfortunately the new RadioNow is running a popularity contest on Myspace to try to bring the Morning Mess back. Say it ain't so.
Does that mean I'm lame if I like the old station? I think the Morning Mess is really funny and really like the music they played because it's pop but with some R&B and rap. They tended to play newer stuff...

I'm with Neal; radio as we know it is irrelevant to so much of the population at present. It is a cliche of a cliche.
Why can't radio do the Pandora thing and let the target market actively shape the programming? That beats doing flawed market research that results in constant repetition of the same 10 songs or the same tired, cliched morning show routines.
This jazz lover is going to keep listening to her Sirrus Satellite Radio. What a mess this Emmis to Radio One fiasco has caused. What a sad day for local radio when 100.9 no longer plays jazz music. And what sad commentary for a black-owned company (Radio One) when it removes jazz from the lineup. Shame on you Cathy Hughes!
