I got a sneak peek at the recently (and long-awaited/long-overdue) Buggs Temple last night, which is that gorgeous renovated building at the 10th Street end of the Canal. Apparently the facility will finally open to the public next Friday, Oct. 19, which is supposed to include two restaurants, a Ritters Custard shop and a Cornerstone CoffeeHouse.
According to their Web site, "the indoor facility will offer a variety of fare for those that venture to Buggs Temple."
On the main level: a marketplace and a coffee shop for breakfast, lunch and dinner dining, as well as a Ritter's.
On the second level: restaurant and bar, with a patio overlooking the Canal.
The inside looks nice, sort of a mix between industrial, with it's exposed ceiling and fixtures, combined with an elegant old style charm, complete with leather arm chairs, rich woods and chandeliers.
By far the best thing about this place, though, is the view. I can guarantee I'll be sitting on that patio sipping an after-work cocktail in the not-too-distant future. Since it's at the north end of the Canal, it's got a perfect view looking straight down the waterway, clear down to the RCA Dome and the Downtown city skyline. Gorgeous.
Hopefully the food will make this location a worthwhile destination and that it's all been worth the wait.
I don't think I had seen that Oct. 19 date before. Thanks for the info, Kimiko ... Looking forward to custard/coffee on the canal (especially once its cleanup is done) ... BTW, we made a slight tweak to your link to the Buggs site (beautifully designed), as it was trying to point within indy.com, instead of going out to the external site (just added http:// to the beginning of the link).
Ah ha. Good to know. I'm not kidding about the view though. Seriously gorgeous. I took a photo on my Sidekick. Now if you just tell me how to link it . . . :)
If you upload the photo to your gallery ... Copy the image location ...
Then, it's like this ...
'Your other Sidekick'
Will display this:
Your other sidekick
(or, hopefully) ... =)
Let's test this out. Click here and here for skyline and Canal views from the second-floor deck at Buggs Temple.
You've got it ... perfect ... we're still working on getting the link to really look like a link ... but it still clicks away great.
I can't help but think that it's an odd time to debut a frozen custard spot, but Ritters will be a great addition to D'town.
Thanks for the heads up, Koko, looks like I need to take some Dining Guide submission forms to West 10th St.!
