Sorry to see about Miami Dolphins QB and Hoosier Trent Green getting knocked out of the lineup, perhaps permanently, by a nasty concussion. It also makes me sad that Daunte Culpepper won't be around to help them out.
After being told he had no chance to compete for the starting quarterback job this summer, Daunte demanded to be released and signed with the Raiders. Now they're 2-0 with him as the starter.
I met Daunte for a large profile I did of him during his rookie season while working for the Star-Banner in Ocala, Fla., Daunte's hometown. I won't belabor the details, but suffice it to say that loyalty is something that's very important to him.
Stick by him, like the University of Central Florida and his foster mother Emma Culpepper did, and he'll never let you down. Treat him like a disposable commodity, as Miami did, and you'll earn his enmity.
With JaMarcus Russell, the number-one overall draft pick, set to eventually take over the QB slot in Oakland, Daunte's tenure with the Raiders will probably be a short one. But I'm hoping by next year, a lot of other teams in need of a quarterback will see that Culpepper's over the devastating knee injury from three seasons ago and is ready to contribute.
He's still just 30 years old and throws the ball as deep and as accurately as anyone. Maybe Atlanta, where Michael Vick doesn't look to return to the NFL anytime soon, will take a look.
Or maybe even Miami. If Trent Green does have to call it a career, it'd be nice to see Pep back in his native Florida, proving everyone wrong once again.
Don't know about Dante making his way back to Miami ... they drafted John Beck in the draft this year and are pretty high on him. In fact, I'd expect him to be starting over Cleo Lemon in the second half of the season.
But as far as return: How about Minnesota ... Tarvaris Jackson hasn't been working out so far this season ...
Don't take this wrong, but that post isn't really entertainment related. Perhaps you should post it on The Star's sports forums instead.
Hey, it got you to respond, didn't it?

This is why I would like to see a sports channel on the site. This is an entertainment/things to do site -- what's more popular in Indy when it comes to entertainment/things to do than sports?
That's true. I think we need to take a look at improving the ability to discuss sports (and everything else) on IndyStar as well. The forums there are not as inviting an interface as what we have here.
I agree with Matt. If you want, roll it into the TV channel or whatever.
