Moviegoers mill about in front of the AMC Clearwater Crossing 12, which closes Thursday, Dec. 13.

The lights will dim Thursday night at the AMC Clearwater Crossing 12. After 14 years and thousands of shows, the Northeastside cinema is closing to make way for the newest theater on the block.

The 2,400-seat AMC Castleton Square 14 will open its doors the next day, starting with a 12:01 a.m. showing Friday of "I Am Legend," the new Will Smith film. It will feature all-digital projection, the first Indianapolis cinema to do so.

Clearwater Crossing opened in 1993 just two miles west of the new theater on East 82nd Street and employed about two dozen people, most of whom will be transferred to the new theater or other area AMC outlets, company spokesman Andy DiOrio said.

Saw AMERICAN GANGSTER (dissappointing) there 2 weekends ago. They were giving out free passes to the new theatre for this weekend and the choices were: ten shows that were at least 6 months old, or ACROSS THE UNIVERSE (Which might be that Beatle's musical thingy?). Bye bye clearwater crossing.

I feel sorry for poor Clearwater. It was a victim of the times. It was built just before the stadium seating revolution, and once that hit, the poor place just couldn't keep up. I remember back in the day it had Taco Bell available with its concessions.

Lots of good memories there, I can tell you that.

Having worked the other side of the proverbial concession counter many a year ago, I can say that I thought Clearwater Crossing was one of the cleanest and best-run theaters around.

Yes, it doesn't have the stadium seating or digital projection or other newest widgets, but I never experienced any problems during the many press/promotional screenings I attended there.

Occasionally, the studio representatives would call me and ask me which theater I preferred to have the advance screening for a particular movie at. I almost always said Clearwater Crossing. So if people who go to a lot of those promos wondered why they seemed to end up there a lot, they have me to blame...

Ha! I always liked it too. I agree with you that it is clean and quiet and with a spacious lobby area, and lots of counter space for INtake panelists! :)

Oh man, I'm gonna miss it but the new one is an upgrade. Haha, I remember the Taco Bell too and how revolutionary it was back in 93.

Got a tour of the new theater yesterday. Pretty sweet. Look for a story in tomorrow's paper/web site.

Ah the memories. Had my first date at Clearwater Crossing. (Waterworld, yo!)

Isn't it ironic that they closed the movie theater in the Castleton Mall to make way for Clearwater in the early 90's and now in the late 2000's they close Clearwater to make room for a theater at the Castleton Mall.

What's next, bell bottoms coming back into style?

Great story in the Star today, Chris. I can't wait to see the place.
