It's heartening that Barcelona Tapas is drawing a steady crowd for both lunch and dinner just a couple months after its opening. (It's at Ohio and Delaware downtown, next door to the reconstituted India Garden.) Try the paella once, but for lunch, the menu has plenty of standard fare tweaked ever so slightly.
For dinner, here's the deal: Step 1) Get there about 8p, with a group of at least four. 2) Order one plate of tapas per person, along with a pitcher of Sangria. 3) Repeat Step 2, several times if you must. 4) You must order dessert. More than one. And share those, too. 5) You must not leave less than three hours after you sit down.
Good call and great instructions ... I've been wanting to try it out, but three hours? I think that would take several of Step 2 (at least the sangria part). And I am glad to see something good happening there (I used to avoid the Burger King that was there before) ... Now, I need to find out why this restaurant isn't in indy.com's dining guide (or that I couldn't find it)
Yeah, I couldn't find it either. Probably because it opened after the last INtake dining guide?
It'll be on indy.com in two shakes!
The downlow on tapas. I've been there half a dozen times. Food is good. Obviously they're smaller portions, and some dishes are MUCH better than others. Avoid the smelly cheese plate on the far left of the menu. I hear it's horrible. The goat cheese with tomato sauce and bread is delish, as is the tenderloin with spinach. There are a few great dishes, some not so great ones, and quite a few that are just so-so. The sangria (look out) has a kick. I'm told it has tequila in it. Mmmmmmmm. Oh, and the service almost always leaves something to be desired. Quite a lot to be desired, in fact. But if you can get past that, the vibe is pretty cool and it's a great place for after-work drinks or to share dinner.
I pretty much love tapas. I definitely like that on nice days you can sit on the sidewalk al fresco and watch the interesting foot traffic in the evening. A definite downtowners' spot.
Oh, I love the BARcelona Tapas joint, and I love you more for bringing it to peoples' attention. However, you missed step 6, (which should probably be 3) and that is: You MUST order the meatballs!
I have yet to go to BARcelona with a group and not see a skillet of these absolutely devoured in moments flat.
I've been rotating on the empanadas, curry chicken salad and goat cheese. I ordered the meatball for the first time last week and I was stunned.. seriously delicious.
It's up now. Darn you, database glitches!
