The other night I watched "The Birds," one of the few Hitchcock films I hadn't seen. It got me to thinking that even the most ardent film buff can't watch everything, and will have some holes in their personal filmography.
So what great or classical films will you cop to never having seen?
Here's a few from me:
The Sound of Music -- tried watching it, turned it off after 10 minutes. Mary Poppins -- I guess I'm not a Julie Andrews fan. Tommy -- When Oliver Reed starting dancing, I bailed. Cleopatra The Asphalt Jungle
I'm going to see the Original King Kong tonight..never saw it before
I'll start my $0.02 by once again rehashing my "202 movies" list. the ones in black are the ones I've yet to see, and they include many classics. Before 2005, when I started the list, I'd never seen any of these films and have been trying to catch up on them since then. Note "The Birds" and "Tommy" were on the list (but removed thanks to the wonder that is Turner Classic Movies--and I also found Tommy unbearable, BTW). "Cleopatra" is on the list too, and a copy of it can be currently found saved on my DVR awaiting my watchful eyes.

I always find it funny the films people question me about when they find out I haven't seen them. The funniest one lately was "You haven't seen HAPPY FEET, and you're a critic?"
I expect something like that for something like "Citizen Kane," or "Casablanca" (though I've seen both of those), but it's funny that people sometimes pick these innocuous movies, like just because they've seen them, I should have too.
Something else I find funny: my dad, who is in many ways most responsible for my love of movies, is probably the most egregious offender of those questioning me. Just recently he called me and asked if I was going to be reviewing "I Am Legend" (the answer, of course, is of course!). He then asked if I had seen "The Omega Man" (from which "I Am Legend" is being remade) and he absolutely could not believe I hadn't seen it. I was like "you know, it came out before I was born."
I have never seen CITIZEN KANE, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, or any GODZILLA movies. Joe, I'm with you, not a fan of TOMMY, (I have an EXTREMELY low tolerance for musicals), and only made it through about 10 min of HAPPY FEET. Turner Classic Movies is the best...I love that guy, white hair, what's his name? I love when Carrie Fisher is on with him talking about old movies.
I have never seen CITIZEN KANE, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, or any GODZILLA movies. Joe, I'm ...
With the exception of Happy Feet, all those shows have played at The Key.
I do want to add that I had an experience similar to yours, Chris, when I watched "West Side Story." It is one of my movies, but I found 10 minutes of street toughs dancing around and snapping at each other unbearable for a movie of almost 3 hours. I later choked it down, but it was difficult. It got better, but I won't say much better.
I can admit that some films may have been great in their time but don't hold up. I'm not a fan of musicals anyway, but WSS I thought was especially ponderous and drawn out.
