I recently added the HD DVR receiver to my wicked sweet home entertainment system, and I think I may soon be considered a DVR god.
Not only is my show selection precise and justified, but even more impressive has to be my fast forwarding skills. I'm a little upset that my remote doesn't have the 30 second increment FFWD button (like TiVo) but I'm still able to hit play at the exact time my show comes back on. I attribute this new found ability to my years of experience doing the perfect gas pump..you know, stopping on the full dollar...I have issues with carrying loose coins.
Anyhow, I urge you to think before you DVR. Saturday nights are usually spent out on the town, but if you miss Seth Rogan (Superbad, Knocked Up, 40 Year Old Virgin) host SNL this week, you're going to be mad. So set the DVR.
Guys, DVR Oprah. You think I'm kidding, but if you want to stop the 45 minute non-stop rant about something you could care less about, you can now interrupt her when she says, "Oh, today on Oprah.." Just say..No! Don't tell me..I DVR'd it. And then you can talk about sports. Speaking of sports, Ladies, DVR Sports Center or "the game". It would be awesome if you could help me with my Fantasy Football line-up, but if you could care less when your guy starts yacking about last nights Cubs game, just say, "No! I DVR'd it."
Enjoy.

I too have recently converted to the HD-DVR, and I must say it's money well-spent. since I got it I've spent as many hours shuffling through my DirecTV guide looking for things to DVR as I have actually watching the programs. I'm hopelessly hooked to it already. Plus when I upgraded I managed to finagle a few free months of Starz, Showtime and TMC, so between that, HBO and TCM I'm DVRing like a madman.
Plus I'm looking forward to my first HD Colts game this Sunday, since a certain network that usually carries the Horseshoe inexplicably doesn't offer HD (at least on DirecTV).
I've been a DVR apostle since moving to Indy two years ago. Regular VCRs can't record in hi-def format like DVR can. And the cost is rediculous -- like four or five bucks a month.
I love the features that let me set up to automatically record my favorite shows every week. Frankly, I usually skip watching the shows live so I can zip through the commercials! The average hour of broadcast television has almost 20 minutes of commercials and promos, so if you watch 10 hours of TV a week, you can do it in seven with DVR, saving time for other activities.
Sometimes, when no one's looking, I secretly give my DVR an affectionate squeeze...
