Johnny's Market at 64th and College (about 500 feet from my house) has traded in fruit for firs. All weekend I've seen "holiday trees" -- wrapped straight jacket-like in netting or twine -- tethered to the roofs of mid-sized sedans.
I really don't see the point in a tree this year, but it's tempting. And since I no longer have any holiday paraphernalia to decorate it with, I'm wondering what I could round up to spruce one up if I did give in to the holiday cheer. My favorite tree was wrapped with Caution tape instead of garland (click here to see a pic). Thinking of what I've got around the house, I'm sure I could make some origami or cut-out ornaments from the masses of old magazines waiting to be recycled. Or I seem to have a bunch of extra silverware that's awaiting the next AmVets pickup. It's shiny, right?
If I get a tree, I want to do something kind of fun and artsy. Or maybe I'll just buy a Polaroid camera and take pics of all my visitors and pin them to the tree. Or make everyone who comes through my door write down some sort of compliment or Christmas greeting and tie it to the tree.
Other ideas? Who's done something less traditional?
