2010 or 2009 Prius?
I’m so torn. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the debut of the 2010 Prius, which is a little roomier and more fuel-efficient than the second-generation model (and far better on both counts than my first-generation Prius). But now Toyota’s making the choice a little more difficult.
Apparently they still have a glut of 2009s to get rid of, and they keep sweetening the deals to try to clear their lots before the 2010s arrive. The latest enticement: zero percent financing. (Nevermind that you can’t really have “zero percent” of anything; that’s for another post in another forum.)
With no interest, I can either significantly lower my payment or buy more car for my money. I’d probably go for the lower payment, since the options in the more expensive packages don’t matter much to me.
So, any advice? Go for the 2009 with no interest, or hold out for the cooler 2010s, which will also have a cheaper base price. (Although it seems a lot of dealers in town are lowering the price of the 2009s, as well.)

The ‘10 Prius crosses the 50 mpg threshold. I’m wondering if other improved efficiencies might make it an even better long-term value than the 09? On the other hand, eager dealers might get even friendlier once you step on the lot — you can walk into some really sweet deals right now.
I’ve driven the current generation Prius many times. It is a great car and owners love them. As you mentioned, prices are really good. I have not driven the ’10 Prius, but it does promise better fuel economy, an ever-so-slightly larger interior, and updated styling. It looks great in person. The ’10 is definitely a better car, but for a price. If you like the current generation and can get a great price, buy it. If prices end up being close to ’10 models, wait. You should also consider the ’10 Honda Insight for a comparison.

This excerpt from a recent review by Malcolm Gunn of Wheelbase Communications might help you weigh your options.
The new 2010 Prius, which arrives in June, maintains the outgoing edition’s ideals, attractive base price, as well as its general shape. It also closely copies most of the 2009 car’s key dimensions, but minor roofline adjustments plus some clever battery hardware repackaging have led to a 5 percent gain in passenger space, particularly in the rear cabin area where it was most needed. Perhaps it’s the redesigned (and more comfortable) seats, the expansive new instrument panel, or the fact that up to three sets of golf clubs (formerly just two) can be stowed in back, but the new Prius feels roomier than the tape measure indicates.
Toyota has installed three separate operating modes in the Prius that encourage thrifty habits. Normal mode is for general everyday driving, while Eco mode reduces power and air-conditioning output to maximize fuel savings. Finally, the EV selector allows the car to function for up to one mile on battery power alone as long as the top speed is less than 25 mph. A dashboard display monitor tracks your “green” status and will tabulate average fuel economy over specific intervals or per trip.

Wow, you have a tough decision to make!
I think if you’ve driven and like the ‘09 model, now sure would be great time to buy. I don’t think you could go wrong either way.
It really depends on how much you feel price is a factor – and how long your current car is likely to last.
Personally, I’d wait until the 2010s are shipping and see how many 2009s are still around. If they are, they’ll be priced to move.

Thanks, everyone! I think I’m going to hold out for the 2010’s arrival. I want to be able to see and drive both of them, and the longer I wait, the better the deals on the 2009s will be if I decide to go that route. I have a feeling, though, that I’ll be seduced by the 2010.
