Hanging out by the phone awaiting texts or live calls from some of my buds taking part in this years competition out in California right now.

The day starts off with a brutal theory examination, followed by a short break before blind tasting trials, and then service practical exams early in the afternoon. Everyone breaks, bellies up to the bar to lick their wounds and contemplate how well they performed, before getting ready for the reception to drink down some bubbles and await the award ceremony. I’m excited for all my friends and eagerly await the results, which I’ll probably find out around 9:00 Indy time.

Good luck guys! I wish I were there but once you win, you’re no longer allowed to play in the reindeer games;)

On another note, I’d love to find a young wine professional in Indy to help prepare and take part in future competitions…..anyone interested? In order to compete, you just have to be under 32 and willing to put in some time and energy. It’s truly a wonderful experience, great networking, some fun travels, and the best way to build your tasting skills and knowledge.
