Wyser and Bowen are both Republicans.
Wyser prosecuted several high-profile cases during his 20 years of criminal law experience, including Jeffrey Voss, who was found guilty of strangling a 12-year-old girl near McCordsville in 2004.
Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi and the chiefs of police from Fishers, Carmel, Westfield and Noblesville were slated to join Wyser during his announcement this afternoon at the Hamilton County Judicial Center.
Current Hamilton County Prosecutor Sonia Leerkamp has said she wouldn’t seek re-election next year. She was unavailable for comment Tuesday.
Hamilton County Sheriff Doug Carter said Tuesday morning he would endorse both Wyser and Bowen, his long-time chief deputy at the department. Bowen, 42, Fishers, has been with the sheriff’s department for the better part of two decades, after spending one year with the Hendricks County sheriff’s department. He intends to make a formal announcement soon.
“Having been with the agency for 18 years and serving as Sheriff Carter’s chief deputy, I feel prepared to take the next step,” Bowen said. “I have the character, experience and leadership to lead the agency.”
