A Speedway woman was arrested on Monday for leaving her children unattended in a parked car outside a store, according to Speedway police.

Monique N. Irwin, 25, was being held on $2,500 bond at the Marion County Jail on Tuesday morning. She faces preliminary charges of neglect and operating a vehicle without a license.

According to a Speedway police report, officers arrived at the CVS pharmacy at 2320 Cunningham Road about 5:25 p.m. Monday. They had been called by a person who said that two children had been left inside a running car for at least ten minutes.

The officers said they found a dog and two girls, ages four and five, in the back seat of the car. The report said the children were wearing T-shirts and pants but did not have coats or shoes.

Police said the temperature was 33 degrees.

Six minutes after police arrived, Irwin returned to the car while she was talking on a cell phone. Police found that she was driving without a license. Police said she may have been in the store for about 40 minutes without checking on her children.
