$2.5M transfer may go to last Keystone roundabout
CARMEL — The City Council will consider transferring $2.5 million to help pay for the construction of the last roundabout along Keystone Parkway.
The transfer, if approved, would help cover $19 million for turning the 131st Street intersection into a roundabout interchange, Councilwoman Luci Snyder said this week. The $2.5 million would come from a $72 million bond issued in 2006 for several road projects.
The money was meant to pay for the Survive Alive House, a facility that would contain quarters for the firefighters’ union hall and be used by the city Fire Department to teach children what to do during a fire.
Mayor Jim Brainard is considering a bond to cover the rest of the roundabout’s cost.
The council’s finance committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at City Hall to discuss the transfer, and then return it to the council for a vote. The council will meet next at 6 p.m. Oct. 19.
