All across Central Indiana, classical musicians are preparing festive holiday fare. Distinctive programs this year will include a one-act opera in Fishers, an African youth choir during the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra's "Yuletide Celebration" and husband-and-wife vocalists with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra.

The ISO's Duke Energy Yuletide Celebration

"Yuletide" is typically a blend of traditional and new acts. The 22nd annual rendition features such favorites as "'Twas the Night Before Christmas," but also newcomers including a choir of East African children ages 10 to 13.

Featuring: Conductor Jack Everly and host Sandi Patty.
When: 30 evening shows or matinees, Nov. 30-Dec. 23.
Where: Hilbert Circle Theatre, 45 Monument Circle.

Celebrate the Holidays

This year's Carmel Symphony holiday program will incorporate Encore Vocal Arts, formerly known as the Indianapolis Arts Chorale, performing selections including the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's "Messiah." There also will be an audience sing-along.

Featuring: Carmel Symphony Orchestra's annual holiday concert, led by David Bowden, with soprano Cathy Rund, baritone Rex Rund and their daughter, Emma Rund.
When: 3 and 7 p.m. Dec. 9.
Where: Westfield High School, 18250 N. Union St., Westfield.

Amahl and the Night Visitors

The Fishers Chamber Players will present its first production of a short, popular holiday opera about a disabled boy and his widowed mother who are visited by three kings. The cast features 13-year-old Tarik Abdou, with Julie Rhea as his mother. "Amahl and the Night Visitors" was created in the 1950s for television.

Featuring: Gian Carlo Menotti's one-act opera, with the Fishers Chamber Players.
When: 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9.
Where: The Promise Church, 12648 E. 116th St., Fishers.
