Do you go for the previews? Stay for the credits?
On our way to a movie yesterday I got caught in a line of traffic. I did the road rage "C'mon people" thing and my daughter told me to chill out, we wouldn't be late to the movie because there's always ten minutes of previews. However, in MY mind, we're late for the movie when we MISS the previews! How 'bout you? Are previews part of the movie for you or is that when you stand in line for popcorn?
After the movie I sat as other people got up to leave. My daughter got up to leave. I said, "Wait, I wanna see this." She rolled her eyes at me as only a teenager can do, sat back down and watched the credits roll with me. I still don't know what a key grip is, but for some reason I need to see who it was.
ANOTHER GOOD QUESTION DAWN.. I've thought about this from time to time, and again, I'm looking at it with the glasses of a parent... After researching reviews about a movie with a PG or PG13 rating I pay money to come have my kids exposed to movies that I probably would never take them to see, or at the least are not age appropriate for them to even pre-view. I'm not saying that the cinema's shouldn't have the right to show them, I know I have watched some and made mental notes that I would want to see a certain movie when it is released, but why not make it a choice of the consumer to stay afterwards and watch previews instead of before when you don't have a choice if you want to get there in time to sit together?

I too feel like I've lost out if I miss the previews, though the commercials help if you're late a lot. I do not sit through the credits unless I know there's one of those little clips at the end of the film that adds to the film.
Hopefully this clears up your lack of understanding about the key grip, a most important job in the industry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key...
There's been more commercials than previews before the last few movies I've seen... movies starting 12-15 minutes later than scheduled start time just rubs me the wrong way, so I purposely enter 8-10 minutes late.. If I just paid $9.50 to see it I figure I have done enough to support the film.. previews seem to be the most prevalent for bad movies anyway.
I stay only if I'm in the Credits or if my foot falls asleep

When I'm reviewing a film for the Star, I stay all the way to the end of the credits. This is partially for my own interest, but also I want to see if there's any "bonus" material at the end worthy of telling the audience to stick around.
Also, I clock the run time myself. Sometimes the studios supply the run time, and sometimes they don't. But even when they do, I often find it to be inaccurate. I've experienced variations as much as 10 minutes from the stated run time.
Interestingly, when it is off, they always say the movie is longer than it is...

Ray Bradbury wrote a short story called "The Anthem Sprinters." Cinemas in Scotland play their national anthem after each film. The premise was a group of friends who would see which one could make it out of the auditorium the fastest once the anthem started.
We have both. There are folks who are out the door before the first credit frame has had time to solidify on the screen; there are folks who stay until the very last frame.
One lady tells me she stays long enough to see who the 'best boy' is. Quite a few will stay to see where the films were shot. That info, most often, appears very near the end of the credits.
For economy purposes, I prefer the European style: "FIN" and that's it! And you know what? People sit a moment and talk! What a wonderful rarity!
The previews, and popcorn, are my favorite part of the movies. I'm mad if I miss any of them. They match my attention span.
I agree Dawn. I can't stand missing the previews. Plus, a lot of the movies put a little something in the credits that I might have missed otherwise.
